ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Gasoline smell

I have a question about a gasoline smell that I am having. When I have been driving for a little while on the highway, then come to a complete stop, I notice a pretty strong smell of gasoline. There is nothing leaking, but I believe this odor is coming through my vents while running my a/c. (didn't notice a smell last winter when the heater was running) The car runs great, no real problems besides the ocassional "flick the bean" (flicking the main fuel relay when it doesnt want to start on occasion) sooo any ideas?

This is a very common issue with some CB7s.

Did you try a search on "gas smell" on the forum yet?

Also step out and see if you can tell where the smell is coming from , if it seems like you smell it more so in the rear of the car check your fuel sending unit gasket. If the fuel sending unit has ever been replaced or taken out then that gasket may not be sealing properly thus why you smell gas. I had the same issue with a previous 93 sedan an I only seemed to smell the fuel in the warmer months or on days it was hot out.

Go to the advanced search and type in "gas smell" and search titles only.

if u think the smell comes from the vents then its most likely coming from the engine bay...but if you have a leak on your gaz lines somewhere under the car or if the gaz tank itself is leaking, it could come from the vents too when your car is stopped especially if your windows are closed its pretty much the only place the smell will get inside the cabin from. you better walk around the car and try to find where the smell is the strongest.

in the engine bay i cant think of many places to look besides the fuel filter and the hose connecting to it and going to the fuel rail, maybe the washer is damaged either on the fuel rail or on the fuel filter? if u replaced your fuel filter recently and didnt change the washer it could be the problem.

also you could have a leaking injector seal, it happened to me when i replaced my fuel rail, i didnt install one injector properly (didnt put oil on it to lube it when i pushed it in) it was leaking on my intake manifold and the smell was strong in the vents, so im thinking this could be your problem.
a leaking fuel injector seal can also cause idle problems (vaccuum leak) if you also have an idle issue it could be a good clue to what your problem is.

              hope i helped u a bit.

thanks guys, this gives a better idea of what may be going on. I haven't been able to check any of this at all since work and school have me tied up. Coming home from work today was the same thing. I don't know if this heat has much to do with it but i drove for about 10 miles or so, with the a/c on, and when i stop to grab a ticket to get on the turnpike, the odor was definitely there. I will have to get in touch with the original owner again but as far as i know nothing has been done. (although my buddy put alot into this car so there might be a good chance work had been done with the fuel system) anyways i will check it this weekend after i get off work tomorrow, at any rate, thanks again!
