ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    CEL code 43: Assistance Requested!

After filling up recently the CEL started tripping at highway speeds. Idle was loping low (200-250) when sitting still afterward. Now it's (CEL and lower than usual loping idle) begun to occur around town in slower traffic. Code 43 is the only code stored.

As soon I left the gas station and hit highway speeds about 65mph the CEL lit up. I decided to keep driving. After 20 to 30 minutes I got nervous about being stranded so I sped up to about 90 to knock the miles out. No noticeable difference in driving. No loss of power or anything. Nothing unusual till I slowed down while exiting the highway. I came to a stop at a red light inside the city and the idle which has always been erratic since the purchase of this vehicle is now worse. When I say worse I mean the idle used to bounce between 500-750 while sitting still. Now the idle was dropping down into the 200-250 range and bouncing back up. The car never cut off but it made me nervous. I handled my business and let the car rest a while. Then I drove it to Tunica, MS. Again no CEL till I got on the highway. I park the car and hit the slots and smash a few drinks and sober up and drive back to Memphis. The CEL came on again on the highway. I stayed the night in Memphis. The next morning I drive back to Jonesboro. CEL on the highway again and super low idle loping when I come to a stop afterward. Back to work the next day. I never hit highway speed this time about 40 mph 45 tops I drive for fifteen minutes stop and leave the car running. I get a work assignment and drive fifteen minutes to the location to get started CEL comes on halfway there. When I slow down to park there's the loping idle again. I'm going to tackle the idle problem using another thread I found posted here. By the time I've cleaned and reattached all those parts perhaps someone will have suggestions here or questions requiring more information on my behalf and I can solve this issue before it involves a wrecker. Any help is appreciated.
What is the problem your actually concerned with?

Is it that the idle is 200-250, or is it that you never mentioned the outcome of you saying "I thought I'd go ahead and check for a stored code before I posted"

We want to help, but we can only help based on the info you give us.
The Slots/drinks/Sobering up/Work stories don't really help us.

Besides - I don't even know where Memphis is, let alone the distance between there and Jonesboro . . .

Memphis is in Tennessee, home of Three6Mafia.

OP, your problem sounds like a failed O2 sensor. Replace with NGK/NTK or Denso, avoid Bosch.

The result was mentioned in the title of this post "CEL Code 43" the lower than usual idle is/was just another symptom of a problem I'm trying to solve. That problem being -> What is causing both the code 43 and low idle?

I believe both these issues are being caused by the same problem because they both started at the same time. My apologies if the story offended you. I felt it was important to include a chain of events or timeline if you will. I'll delete the story.

Stories confuse matters. Always state the problem, and any information that may be relevant. People avoid reading long posts.

Anyway, code 43 is almost always an oxygen sensor code. As dj_ender suggested, replace the sensor. The code will go away. If you ignore it, you will soon experience dangerous bogging around 3000rpm.

The erratic or low idle is not caused by the o2 sensor, nor is it likely to be related to the code 43 (even if the code were to include other fuel supply components.) Check the thread at the top of this section marked "read here first" for instructions on how to properly set your base idle. If that doesn't work, we can dig further.

actually a bad oxygen sensor can cause a low idle because it can cause the vehicle to run terribly rich.
