ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I always like new tools! It is a project that I will work on when I can so I am not in a rush to get it done, so if I don't have what I need I will go get it!

I highly suggest a manual as it's more complicate than throwing rings, piston's and bearings in a engine.

I have a Chilton's, I know that they are not the best and I don't believe that they have anything on rebuilds. Would a Helms work or do I need to find the factory service manuals?

Helm manuals ARE the factory service manuals. Helm has the authorization to publish them. That's definitely what you should get.
I have a Helm manual for a 94 Prelude (for my H22A), a Haynes manual for the CB, and a Chiltons manual that covers... shit... 4 generations of Accord and Prelude. It's worthless.

Invest in the Helm manual. It's pricey, but it'll pay for itself in this engine rebuild alone... and it'll be incredibly useful in future projects as well.
Search Ebay, craigslist, amazon, and forums for used ones. I picked up my manual for $35 from one of my moderators here.

Ok! Ha ha, It is a kind of annoying that one Chilton's covers so much. It has been more of a PITA than a help. I am so glad that I have All of my fellow members to help me out! All of you have been super nice and very helpful! And I am really amazed that the head guy is helping out with all of my noob questions. Thanks again Deev!

Not trying to beat a dead horse on manuals, but there is also a downloadable or digital version of a Helms manual for less than 10 bucks on ebay. You may need a laptop or computer, but saves a bit more money for parts that you may need. The good thing about the cd or dvd rom discs is that you can type in a specific search and it will jump you to that particular part or subject right away.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm kind of old school, I like to have a book out in the garage with me. Its ok if that gets a little dirty but I sure wouldn't want a lap top to get greasy.

My advice is to look up a kit to get a list of everything you need... then buy each part from Honda directly.

When you buy a kit, you're paying someone to do all the thinking for you. You're paying someone to gather all the parts for you. They do the thinking, then they charge a profit for it. If the price is cheap, you can guarantee that the quality of the parts will be even cheaper... because the kit seller is getting his cut!
Don't buy a kit. Buy individual parts. If you're too lazy or clueless to do that, then you have NO business attempting a rebuild yourself anyway... because it only gets more complicated from there!
Honda makes gasket kits and they are cheaper than buying individual parts. Sadly a quick look online seems to indicate the only gasket set thay are still making for our 20+ year old CB7s is the head replacement set, but it is one of the most common needed sets anyway. Name brand aftermarket gasket makers like Fel-Pro also provide kits for less than the cost of the individual components. Not sure where you got your info on buying kits, but it is incorrect. Buying all the gaskets needed for a job as a set when possible is prudent and cost effective, certainly not a sign of laziness or an indication of being clueless.
