ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

After reading and thinking about this, all the pros and cons, has anyone attempted this setup? Use the stock airbox setup with a quality K&N filter, and remove the top (you may have to use the top to hold the filter in place and cut a large hole in it.) This would keep the functionality and having a setup that flows well.

Then to make it look right, fab up some sheet metal to cover it and maybe the battery area too. This would be a small amount of work with a sheet metal brake but I am just thinking out loud here about something that works and would look nice and without having to cut a hole in the car like Deev referred to. Has anyone seen this done? I am sure it's been done.

Just thinking of something that works and is unique.

I've got pictures of a similar set up on my celica. Stainless steal pipe ran into the stock box which was swiss cheese'd (Drill holes in the bottom portion of the box) with a K&N.

I would imagine that's every bit as functional as a short ram intake, with perhaps some added benefit of drawing cooler air (at the very least, sheltered from the engine bay heat, and as far from the header as possible.)

If you cut a hole in the top, you'd be getting un-filtered air. But I run a set-up like SOHC-FTW is describing. A short ram tube with a bunch of holes drilled in the bottom of the stock airbox.

I wish I could trade my heart for an extra liver, just so I can drink more and care less.

It work's i've ran it on a few cars so far, plus its a cleaner look. As i said earlier i seen better 8th mile times with that setup vs a SRI. Currently at the moment on the yoter i am running a dryflow until i can get a cupping that will work and keep the pipe on through aggressive driving. On a dd with nothing but bolt ons i'd run a similar intake on anything.

And another benefit, if it was done correctly, it would clean the engine bay up some.

Also, changing the OEM tube to an aftermarket chrome or anodized or cf finish too!!!!

My LX has holes on intake resonator. The resonator is connected to OE air filter box by two ducts drawing "cold air".

Stock airbox helps restrict flow at a lower rpm to allow pressure to generate.

Thats why you guys see a better low end response with a stock air box. The engine doesn't need a wide open intake path at 1500 rpm. A little restriction allows pressure to build, which equates to flow through velocity. Of course, the top end is where you suffer from this restriction, but that is why you see/feel a difference off the line. All of the ribs and bends you see in the stock intake system are there to direct air flow. The stock box is actually engineered for optimal airflow specific to the engine requirements.

The SRI pipe is just a smooth, shiny piece of metal with literally 0 R&R involved.

Thats why I wanted to keep my stock air box instead of going to an SRI. But the CB tube is too small to fit the H23 TB.

I need to go find an H23 intake in the JY.

just go with the short ram... cold air has too many problems.. esp if u hit a puddle or it rains a lot where u live, you can really hurt your engine,

I'm locking this now. The useful information has been provided in the first few posts, and now it's just being regurgitated by the post-whores.
