ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Break job\wheel bearings on my accord help?

I need to do the breaks (rotors, pads) and while there I need to the wheel bearings as well, safety and emissions is do soon. My question is, is there a easier way in changing them? My mechanic buddy did the breaks on my mums car but he had a special tool and I can't get ahold of him to barrow it. Has anyone done them without that special tool and what's the easiest rout??

You will need a few special tools.

I use a faucet puller or a 2 jaw puller to remove the ball joints from the knuckle and 10mm 12pt socket and a FWD hub puller and slide hammer (works just fine on rear hub as well), 32mm and 36mm axle nut sockets, an air hammer with a chisel is also nice. Breaker bar or impact gun, a rubber mallet and possibly a bearing press if you don't get the hub/bearing assembly.
^That is just to replace bearings...

Break job just uses standard tools, unless you are replacing rotors, in that case you should do the bearings as well at the same time.

What specific tool are you talking about?

The too l seen him use had two plates, one bolted to the hub and other was connected to a large bolt that you tighten and it pulls on the plate that's bolted to the hub. He said it was a special tool for that type of hub he bought from Honda. Would taking the whole knuckle off make changing the rotors\bearings easier? I've the bearing and housing assembly not the hub and bearing assembly.

That was the tool he used.

        Definitely need tools.

I followed these guides when I did my fronts.

I can't see your linked picture. You will need a hub puller, it bolts to the hub and can be used with a slide hammer or the bolt down the middle to push the hub off. You will need a press to install the bearing if you did not get the hub/bearing pre-assebled, and they will have to do it right or they will damage the new bearing so take the hub and bearing to a shop for them to press it. I prefer to take the knuckle off, some just disconnect the rack/pinion ball joint and rotate the knuckle one way and the rack/pinion away from the wheel. You will need the axle out, one way or another to access the 12pt bolts that hold the bearing in the knuckle.

            @qiko thanks for the links.

Ya sorry about that I think I used the wrong format. The tool he used sounds like the on your talkin about. I'm just going to take off the whole knuckle I live right across the street from mechanic shop so that sound like easiest and less stressful rout. Thanks for the input you guys, it's much appreciated.

before u put things back together put some anti seize. around the barring where it fits in the the control arm so later when u do brakes again it will come apart easy. fyi light cote i did this to my accord and brakes the second time was a breeze.

                no press is needed.

what i did was installed longer bolts in the back of the hub and used a hammer and persuaded the assembly out...

and it is "Brake" not "break"

wed3k, I never said he needed a press to remove the bearing from the knuckle. I said he needed a press to put the bearing on a hub.
