ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

91 Accord EX - Recommended modifications?

Hey yall, newbie here. I've been reading the forums for a while now and have found a lot of good and helpful information. I'm hoping yall can give me some good advice/feedback on this...
I drive a 91 accord ex. She's in good shape and runs well but i'd like to start making some modifications so she runs/is better. I'm no expert, just a sensible person who can follow directions well, problem solve, and -most importantly- who wants to learn more about my car. I'm not looking to race her or resell at a profit or any of that, just want her to look and run her best.
Considering all that, what modifications would yall suggest i make or start with? What would be a good return on the investment of my time/money in terms of performance enhancement? What would be reasonable for a green, at home mechanic to do?
All i've done so far on the car is basic maintenance stuff - flushing brake lines, changing spark plugs/wires, replaced my blown tcu... stuff that's been pretty simple.
Additionally, without fully disassembling things to do so, what's the best way to clean under the hood to prepare to work on it? Any methods and product recommendations yall can have would be great.
Sorry to start off with such a whopper of a post... looking forward to any feedback/advice yall have, thanks!

Not really a whopper, but 90% of what you ask is covered on the forum.

As far as cleaning the engine bay you can steam clean it, power wash it (while cold or running only and cover electronics), or use simple green or another detergent.

Deevergote, thank you for linking me to that. Hp isn't the only measure of an engine running better, is it? Would other features of the car be positively affected (perhaps indirectly) by increasing hp? For example, the smoothness of the ride, handling, fuel efficiency... any of that tie in with the hp increase or do you have any recommendations for mods on those?
Wildbill, thank you. The simple green suggestion seems like it would work best for me. Will i just want to avoid getting cleaner on electrical components? Anything else i need to steer clear of in there?

Just protect the electrical and allow the car to dry prior to starting it.

Most of us think "car running it's best" means taking full advantage of OEM parts and removing restrictive parts. For you it may mean more economical.

Do the A6 conversion if you want more power, but you will lose gas mileage.

Please let us know what "running it's best" means to you.

To me, running its best = smooth ride, quick acceleration, good handling.
I'm not personally familiar enough with parts to have a knowledgeable opinion re: oem... i don't want to put a bunch of crap in my car but i'm not married to the idea of using only a specific brand/make on parts (although i have been following advice from forum members regarding certain brands/makes being preferable).
Honestly, i want to learn as much as i can about how my car works and what will make it work best and that's kind of hard to do as a working adult. I don't know anyone with the slightest knowledge about cars and it's not like i can just go to my mechanic and say "Hey, teach me how a car works." Reading the haynes only goes so far, you know?

smooth ride, quick acceleration, good handling

              Smooth ride:
              Replace motor mounts
Upgrade the suspension or just replace all macpherson struts (jump to handling)
              Replace all ball joints
              Replace all wheel bearings
              Replace worn Axles
Inspect tires and balance or new tires (jump to handling)

              Quick acceleration:
              Clean the engine
              Adjust valves
              Do the A6 swap
              upgrade I/H/E
Use a close gear ratio transmission
(engine swap if you want faster accel than f22a6)

              Good handling:
Start with the suggestions on smooth ride
Upgrade to wider tires and lighter rims
Lower the car 1"-2" with QUALITY components
              Camber kit
              Replace tie rod
              Sway bar swap
              Alignment
ROH and big brake conversion with 2 piston calipers

Or you can check out MRTs like mine or others where we fully restore the car then do modifications. You live close enough, it you need help give me a shout. I work in Temple, TX and live in Gatesville, TX.
