ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

92 ex sedan, which engine do I have?

Howdy folks! I just picked up my accord. I'm not sure how to tell with engine I have. I know it's2.2l but, I see theres a handful of model numbers with the same displacement. I'm looking to update the engine and gain a bit more pep. I can't go crazy because i wont be around my car as of January. Thank you.

Welcome! Jeffersonville isn't too far from West Chester if you need help with things. If it hasn't been altered, then F22A6 is correct. As dj_ender indicated, the engine type is stamped on a flat area of the block to the left of the exhaust heat shield just below a big rectangular rubber grommet that fills the window to see the timing marks on the flywheel.

Awesome! Nice to see some people close! It took a little bit to find it, One of the previous owners put a header on it. There was no heat shield. As far as I know it is unaltered. The only actual engine work was a head gasket. I help put it on. Is the F22a6 a good engine to work with?

Yeah, you're not going to get a better USDM F22A than that. There's the F22A7, I believe, in Europe that makes 150hp, but that's it... and I've NEVER seen one of those in the US.

The only easy upgrade left to do using real Honda parts is an H23A1 intake manifold swap (or just the plenum on your F22A6 lower half... you can also use the H22A plenum, though the entire H22A manifold won't fit.)

ok, so after the intake the only other upgrades are "serious " upgrades? Head work pistons etc?

Pretty much, the A6 offered the best performance out of the three available stock engines in the US market and the only difference was the design of the exhaust manifold, a cam, intake manifold, and the engine computer to control it. Ive got the A1 from the DX and im quite happy with it.

The only other worthwhile external modification besides what's been suggested is a nice header. What you have is likely a generic header purchased off of eBay, which is great for an OEM replacement. It likely makes the same or just slightly better power than the F22A4 tubular header. However, A real header like the Bisimoto will make good power of stock. It's designed to be used with a tune which could help to improve other modifications as well.

Depends, a dyno tune will be most accurate but set you back over $500...

OP, welcome to the forum. While your initial enthusiasm is encouraged; you have received the answer you were initially looking for in the creation of your thread. I invite you to read up on the F22A6, and then decide exactly what you want out of your car. Then create a second thread so that you can get whatever clarification you need. If you search you will find that there is plenty of aftermarket and OEM support for the F22, but only if you look.
