ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

JDM H22a swap knock sensor question

Hello all, I just did an H22a swap into my 90 CB7 and I am throwing a CEL #23 for the knock sensor. I have been looking into this on line and I am unsure if the OBD1 H22a's knock sensor is set for the detonation frequency or if it produces power with any vibration. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Also, will I get a CEL if my motor is knocking, or will it just retard the timing and not notify me?

Where did you get the motor? What ecu are you using?

I bought the motor from Attarco in Sacramento. I am running the p13 ECU. I know I can get the p28 and have it modded to make it work with my motor and that will eliminate the knock sensor, but I am not sure how that works for having my car BAR'd.

So sorry, I just realized I posted this in the appearance section. Now I see why newbies are restricted the the beginner sections.

You also didn't use the "edit" button... which you should always do, rather than posting directly after a previous post.

Hey, at least someone didn't tell you that knock sensors look nice! (a common smartass reply for technical threads posted in the appearance section... you're far from the first to do it!)

Anyway, the thread has been moved to the proper section. You may actually get help now.

As for the question itself, I honestly don't know if the knock sensor detects a specific frequency, or just the sound of knock itself. I believe it's a fairly simple device, so I assume it simply picks up any knocking sound coming from inside the engine.
I also don't know for certain if it will throw a CEL. I've had a P28 for so long that I haven't even thought about it! I actually want to restore my knock sensor functionality at some point, since it's a useful safety measure.

Did you check the motor to see if you had a knock sensor before you put it in? And if it did then did you wire it up correctly?

I have done some research online about the knock sensor and at some point they changed the function of the knock sensor. The first style of knock sensors picked up all noise and vibration of the motor and continuosly put out a very minor voltage to the ECU. When the knock sensor put out a certian amount of voltage the ECU would recognize it and start to retard the timing.

The second type of knock sensor was tuned to detect ONLY the sound of knocking/pinging and would only creat voltage when it heard knocking/pinging.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of knock sensor was in a 94 JDM H22A?

Yes, I made sure it had a knock sensor, and yes, I did wire it up correctly. I don't remember off the top of my head what pin number it was put into, but I do know that it was put into the correct place. I just heard that the knock sensors have a limited life span because the pizeo (not sure if I spelled that correctly) crystal stops creating voltage at some point.
