ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Full Coilover Spring Rate

I was wondering what is the best full coilover spring rate for a daily driven car that is dropped?

    #2
It depends what you want from the car. A daily driver really doesn't need a high spring rate. In fact, that can be dangerous on many roads. I'd look for a coilover such as the Tein Basic that has a relatively low spring rate.

Many of the cheaper wannabe "race" crap, such as D2 and K-Sport have insanely high spring rates. They feel sporty, but on a rough road, you could easily lose control of your car.

In my opinion, a full coilover isn't necessary unless you have the need, knowledge, and tools to properly adjust it. I run a properly matched set of springs and shocks myself, and it's a more reliable ride. I let the engineers that designed my components (Koni and Neuspeed, currently) determine what is best. They know much more than I do about what is correct for my car!

Y do you consider k sports and d2s to be "crap". I've personally experienced both and they are adjustable for stiffness. I'm just curious to your reasoning.

The springs are not adjustable for stiffness... and the spring rates are absurdly high on both.

Also, a number of people have had them break, because they are cheaply made products. They are also made in the same factory... so aside from very minor differences, those two products are just the same part renamed.

At least in 2005, D2 off the shelf rates were 11K front 7K rear (616 lbs/in, 496 lbs/in) that's what I went with and absolutely loved it. Daily drove my setup for over 5 yrs, the stiffness worked out fine for me. I decided against having the rear stiffer than the front, didn't want to have the rear sliding out! I'm aware that D2's quality won't compare to the top of the line coilovers, but I've personally put over 100K miles on mine and they've done pretty darn good IMO. Also enjoyed messing w/ the dampening, spring preload, and height. All the parts are serviceable/replaceable too. Only issue was 1 knocking shock my 1st winter, was replaced for free. Replaced all 4 shocks in 2009 IIRC. Springs are now weak though, def. are not as stiff as before Will need to replace those.

i agree with deevergote get a set of springs and shocks instead. i just put ebiach sportlines springs and koni strt shocks on my cb and it rides great even on the rougher roads, the ones that i try to avoid.
