ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    Possible transmission/engine problems?

    Hey everyone,
I have a 91 accord ex. I'm having four problems that I know nothing about. The first problem I'm having is when I'm driving and my car shifts from either 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd(unsure which of the two it is), it really slams into it. I can feel it hit harder than it used to, when the transmission shifts my whole car and body jerks forward. This even happens when I slow down at a light and my transmission shifts down it sometimes hits hard too.

The second problem I'm having is when the car is in drive and I'm at a red light or even when it's in park and isn't moving, the rpm gauge fluxuates up and down around 1000 rpm and the car sounds like it goes "ba duh duh" every 3 or so seconds. It feels/sounds like the engine is maybe stalling and trying to prevent itself from shutting off. This is completely new it just started happening.

The third problem I'm having is that when I'm driving the gas pedal goes down and I can get to about 40mph but then it feels like its refusing to push down any lower and I have to force it down very hard for the pedal to loosen up in order for me to go faster. Now everytime I turn the car off or am stopped at a light with my foot on the brake this comes back.

My final problem is that when I hit the brakes and stop at a light the brake slowly sinks all the way to the ground and I have to hurry up and let it go and push it down again to keep it from sinking and to prevent my car from moving I checked my brake fluid and it's at the correct level it should be so I don't understand:/?

These problems have all literally started in the last few weeks and are obviously recent. I wanted to fix my car but it seems like I'm dumping money into a car that keeps breaking anymore. It's truly a nice car but it keeps breaking repeatedly.. Please help me and tell me how I can fix my problems, although I'm dropping a lot of money, I'm trying to use this car until I can't anymore.

    Thank you all,
    Antonio

For starters you need to check the fluid level of your transmission. Does your S light blink or anything?

Your master cylinder is probably failing making the brake pedal sink. You'll need to replace that to get your brakes working properly again.

Read this link to possibly fix your erratic idle.

As for the gas pedal issue, check to see if the throttle cable isn't binding somewhere.

I'll have to double check the fluid level of my transmission but no there is no s light.

Flush your tranny. I have the same trans problems as you and ill take it to a shop to flush it. I don't have the time. I also have your third problem but i have some leaks and a pin hole in my oil pan plus a loose hose in my SRI. If you don't have any of those things wrong with your car then i would suggest a tune up.

like suggested above, first try a tranny DRAIN AND FILL (EDITED) (especially if it's been a while) also this could be a bad mount. check your mounts.

Definitely go to the link above posted by Leung to fix your erratic idle.

it is most likely the master cylinder. you would need to replace that and be sure you bleed the brakes or else you will still have a problem! If you take it to a shop be sure they bleed the brakes, there was another person that had a shop replace their master cylinder and they didn't bleed the brakes because "they didn't need to" but you ALWAYS need to after replacing something in the system. (except of course just pads or shoes)

I wouldnt flush the fluid out in our old auto transmissions. If you search for some of the older threads its always recommended instead to drain and fill several times to get the out fluid and any particles out.

yea sorry, didn't mean flush haha, worked at Honda should know better then to say flush. it's a drain and fill. other cars besides Honda's you can flush.

Yeah, don't "flush". Drain and fill. Twice if you really want to get all the old fluid out. Use authentic Honda ATF, nothing else.

The slam when shifting may be motor mount related. Check your mounts to see if the rubber is torn. If it is, replace them (or replace them anyway... your car is old enough to drink!)

Everything else Leung said in his first reply is pretty much what you need to look at.

Sounds like the valve body is going out in your transmission.

And Leung is right about the master cylinder, typically if your pedal sinks and you can pump it to still get brakes.. You've got an internal leak.

Check for kinks in the outer housing of the throttle cable, spray some pb blaster down the tube and let it sit overnight.. could be rusting inside if no kinks

The good thing is, throttle bodies rarely fail, so if you do need to replace yours, a junkyard replacement should be rather inexpensive and fully functional. If the cable is bad, it's not incredibly expensive or difficult to replace either.

I was just thinking, maybe there is something going on with the kick down cable on the transmission and the throttle body?

Bad Dude seem to have a similar problem in his thread

I see what youre trying to say but its definitely not the mounts its only when the tranny shifts does is hit hard like that... :/ as for the gas pedal issue its like loose and hanging off like in the picture

If the mounts are shot, the transmission shifting will cause the entire engine/transmission to flop around. That WILL cause one hell of a clunk.

So, i took a closer look at the wire in the picture thats sagging and i found out that the wire from the throttle body to the spring closer to the front of the passenger side of the engine and its starting to fray near the battery. could i buy another one of these wires from an advanced auto or autozone or something?

It looks like Autozone has it BUT it's a special order and it was quite expensive.
I'd just go to the pick and pull and grab one so long as there isn't any damage to it either. Too bad i don't have the one from my auto transmission from when i converted, I'd let you have it.
