Power steer fluid

What kind of fluid should i get if ima replace it with new one?? Ive heard theres a honda kind ?

I'm the type of person that will go out of their way to drive to a Honda dealer and buy Genuine Honda power steering fluid while paying their price. Others might just go to Autozone and buy their brand fluid because it's cheap. It's your car so it's your call.

Just get fluid that's approved for Honda/Acura vehicles. Any auto parts store should have it, Its about 4 bucks a pint I think. The reservoir usually takes 2 pints to fill.

You won't notice any improved function with Honda fluid over a non-Honda branded fluid, but the Honda fluid might be better for the life of the pump.

Power steering is something I don't think I'd go out of my way to use Honda fluids (unlike an automatic transmission, which should ONLY use Honda fluid...)

Honda service manual calls for generic fluid (Dexron or Dexron II) for automatic transmission where as for power steering fluid it calls for Honda specific fluid,, P/N 08208-99961.

Since I don't drive automatic Accord, I don't have personal experience using non Honda fluid on automatic transmission. I don't know the outcome of use of such fluid.

Weird... I still would only use Honda fluid in an automatic (not that I'd ever have an automatic... )

But yeah, I didn't mean to send this off topic.
If the Honda PS fluid is reasonably priced and easily available, get that. Best to use the correct fluid whenever possible.

autozone/ Oreillys... whatever is in your area.... i wouldnt trip too much on ps fluid...

I would stick with Honda's fluid. I have seen a few pump leaks after putting in non Honda fluids.

I dont know if it is bad for the pump but ive been using prestone PS fluid that is made for Honda/Acura

i can get the fluid at a winchester auto parts , but i need to pick up a new ps pump from the junkyard because the one i have i think went bad because theres a humming noise and u cant feel the power steer

on the manual for our cars it says use dextron II

is honda trans fluid that much better than the fluids that replace dextron II?

Honda has updated there fluids over the years as advances in minerals have improved. for example, even though the service manual recomended 30w engine oil in manual tranny 20 years ago it is better to use the latest honda manual transmission fluid.

like wise the honda atf has improved over the years.
the atf and mtf fluids on this page have been super seeded.

as for power steering it would be better to have new clean recomended for honda acura genaric auto parts fluid,
than old dirty power steering fluid

There's no argument for using the most current manuals while working on Hondas.

Please post up the most current page indicating what fluids are used for our Accords so we all can benefit from your information.

From my experiences with hondas, anything other than the honda ps fluid will prematurely fail your pump.
