ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    92 cb7 h22 swap

Hey guys this is my first post so take it easy on me. I am looking at swapping to a h22a. Ive looked online at prices and I am good with that. my question is how much does it cost to have the motors swapped and is this an easy or hard swap??? thanks agian for any info or help!!!

The "sticky" threads in the Swaps section of this site will tell you all you need to know regarding the swap procedure. How difficult it is would be a matter of opinion. What one person may consider to be easy might seem impossible to you! You'll have to determine that yourself.
The same goes for cost. You could do it yourself for free (aside from the price of necessary tools, fluids, and important parts such as the timing belt, rear main seal, etc...) OR you could arrange for a fellow enthusiast to do it for you for like $200 and a case of beer. OR, you could take it to a shop and have them do it. I chose that route, like an idiot (CB7tuner didn't exist back then...) and I paid $1700 for the shop to install it... JUST LABOR... and it was a shitty job.

I called a shop around my area and they said around $1000 and that was from a reputable shop(rich tuned in auburn Washington) just because its a drop in. If you need new mounts or shift linkage and what not then the more the cost

My shop quoted me $500-$1000, and then spent 2 weeks bitching at me because "it's not just a drop in like you said!"

If you have a shop do it, make sure they actually know what is involved... I spent 2-3x my estimate because my shop lied to me that they've done such swaps before. It IS a fairly simple swap, but there are some things you have to do.

like deev said, what one person thinks is simple can be difficult for another. If you want to go the DIY route do your research and don't jump too deep in it. I plan on doing a turbo h22 eventually but I still have much research and learning to do before I can start. The same goes for price, doing it yourself will most likely be cheaper then sending it to a shop. The price of your motor will vary as well. Where you get it and what you get will raise or lower the cost.

If you decide to go with a shop make sure they know what they are doing, there isn't a shop around here that will do performance work on an import so I will be doing most myself(except tuning). If you live in a place where the shops are around then its totally up to you, but living in the sticks I am on my own with this one. When choosing a shop you will probably get what you pay for.

Just make sure you have done your research and know what is going on

Not to take this thread off topic... (as I take it off topic... let's not keep it there, though!)
I honestly wouldn't bother with a turbo H22, unless you A) already have an H22 in your car, or B) have a specific reason for wanting a turbo H22.
The F22A can make just as much power as the H22, and it costs far less to replace if (when) it eventually blows up. Plus, if you don't already have an H22 under your hood, you already have an F22A... no need to spend money on another engine. That money can go towards proper turbo components.

Also, if you consider 2 hours or so to be in your area... a moderator here (lodollar92lx) owns a shop in Standish, ME. He'd surely know how to do whatever you wanted, seeing as he has a fully built turbo H22 frankenstein (one of the only frank owners I actually respect, because he did it right.)

Thanks deev, not going to keep this off topic but thanks for the info about lodollar92lx. Turbo f22 is definitely a thought, just like the h22 motor, no certain reason, but f22 turbo is definitely going to be considered. When I get ready to do whatever I decide I will definitely be paying lodollar92lx. I might next time I'm in that part of the state anyways, just to get in touch. thanks again for the input.

If you can do it do it yourself honestly dont let another shop take your car and work on it. I personally would work on it myself and learn something. First things you will need time atleast 3 days. Secondly plenty of space and a flat area to work and slide things under the car.

A transmission jack to have less strain on your back on the transmission when you go to swap in the motor. Then you need a motor stand and a 2 jackstands a jack and a engine hoist cherry pickeralong with some hand-tools.

Before the motor goes in first you want to make sure you get it from a reputable engine seller Hmotorsonline sell the most reputable motors and they dont screw around because they have a good rep so you dont have to do things locally botering people who be selling some bum-ass beat to scrap motors.

The engine stand will allow you to check the motors and prep it before you drop it in. Then the transmission jack will allow you swap out a clutch later on down the line when you go to swap it out with a racing clutch it's worth it in my honest opinion. You can drop the engine in with the transmission attached it but later on I feel you will need it so it would be worth it. Some cardboard so you dont end up scraping yourself up pretty bad on the ground. After your dont with that run the car first after you swap the motor then do what needs to be changed.

If it aint broke dont fix it and please btw make sure above all else make sure you get the full motor and transmission h22 swap dont do what alot of these people who try to cheap out do by getting just the h22 motor and f22 tranny along with it it's a waste inmo and boosting the h22 is a waste unless its built.

It's a good thing he looked out but honestly when considering boost one should think what do they want out of this project furthermore how much do they have to spend to get itdone right and make it last. A boosted f22 motor unless its built with alot of those miles on there will not last on the motor compared to one that has been built to start fresh and fortified to handle the added excess boost pressure and heat oh mated along with a good tuner ofcourse to tune it safely.

h22 sparkle, I want a boosted toy/ somewhat daily driver. Whatever I do will be done right regardless of money, and I will do whatever I decide. When this happens it will be done right....everything. I will not cheap out on it, I can deal with driving a stock/ish cb till then. I just want to have some fun building a car I love and giving it some power.

                    end of off topic.
