ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Royal Purple Synthetic or Castrol Edge Synthetic?

    My experience:

The F22 runs noticeably smoother with Royal Purple over Castrol fully synthetic. Running RP returns oil analysis' with fewer wear metals than any others I've tried (including Torco, never tried Amsoil).

Royal Purple oil filters are garbage, the oil drainback valve is an inferior design and you will have 2-3 seconds of no oil pressure on every startup after the engine sits for 3+ hours. I normally run Purolator PureOne filters with RP oil and I go 10k with my crv, 3k with the CB because I drive it hard.

However, as stated before, if you just dd your car and rarely push it, regular dino oil is fine and any synthetic other than Mobil1 is excellent protection!

I've ran royal purple ever since running amsoil and killed my rocker arms. Since the RP move, never had a problem with wear or anything on my magnetic drain plug.

RP is the shit. if i moved to any other oil it would be brad penn.

All to expensive, but i noticed more noise up top after using both mobil1 and RP. So i run castrol 10w30 full syn. and seems to be doing fine But like stated, if you are running these expensive full syn oils you can change the oil every 5k without worrys unless you use a shitty filter.

wow, I've been running Castrol full syn. with a fram filter in every car I've owned and always stressed about going to far over 3k... I might try to let this next change slide a little farther.

Full synth should be just fine. I take my Fit to 10k regularly (though that's 2 months, tops...)
Fram filters kinda suck, though. There are better filters on the market. For readily-available filters, I'd pick up a Purolator Pure One. They're probably the best you can get from most stores. There are most likely better... but for our old cars, it's highly unlikely we'll ever need better than that!

Also, as I'm sure I or someone else has said in this thread already... unless you're running major mods, or you have an abnormally long oil change interval, you really don't NEED anything more than a quality regular oil. Anything "better" than what the car needs is kinda like shouting at a deaf guy.

Well mineral oil aka conventional isnt necessarily the best.. at least use synthetic blend.. And yes purealator is good shit as well as WIX

Then I shall ride out this change another thousand or two. Now not trying to be too far off topic but is there the same unspoken rule or generally accepted idea for tranny oil as well or is that 30k and Honda atf ONLY...

I decided to put rp in ly car because i drive hard sometimes and usually regular oil turns black before 2000 miles.

the previous owner didnt maintain the motor so when i pulled the pan i seen alot of sludge.i did rthe old atf fluid with oil in the motor to break it up and i changed my seals because i knew the may leak afterwards.mobil 1 makes my engine tick louder than the royal purpal does and the engine runs a little rougher.with royal purple i barely hear or feel the engine at idle.

i have noticed with the cheaper Mobile 1 at walmart that my engine ticked more up top than before. instinctively i now use Castrol fully synthetic with a K&N filter and it does a whole lot better. atleast to satisfy the ticking in the head. maybe it even helps keep oil pressure at optimum performance for Vtec

                          Fram filters are shit.

Best filter for the price is a Purolator PureOne.

Give me the best filtration with the cheapest oil walmart sells instead of the best oil and a fram filter.

Trying to understand your wording....are you saying that with RP your engine was quieter but ran rougher?

On both my cb7 and crv I notice a quieter & smoother engine with RP over Castrol full syntec.

As far as filters, the top of the line Fram is a pretty decent filter, all other Fram filters are junk. I personally run Purolator PureOne (arguably the best filter for the price for 99% of applications). If I plan on extended drain intervals I'll run a K&N or Bosch filter. These filters can hold a larger number of particles before becoming clogged and impacting oil pressure.

Whew i thought i was the only one that heard that valve chatter more after using Mobile 1 synthetic. Every time i said that, someone would always come back and say it was all in my head.

It's not in your head. Mobile 1 has a great reputation because most people PERCEIVE their visually appealing products, cool commercials, and the fact that they pay big bucks for high-end cars to tell people to run their oil (Corvette, Viper, etc) as meaning they are a quality oil. Run an oil analysis on Mobil 1 synthetic vs almost any other oil, dyno or synthetic, and you'll find inferior protection from the Mobil 1. Mobil 1 is a great cleaner, they have tons of detergents, but they are a poor lubricant. Evidence collected using my own oil samples and Blackstone labs oil analysis.
