ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Clutch / Tranny Problem

    Whats up guys,

Well i found out today why my sister had the car sitting in the back yard for the past year or so. She told me that one day she was driving the car and everything was fine and shifting fine and then the very next day when she let her boyfriend drive it i guess he was driving along andall of a sudden the gear shift popped out of gear. Then it would go into any gear. I jumped in it today for the first time since then and i got it to start and shift threw every gear. Some where hard hear and there but went in. Never popped out on me. But i noticed when i had the car running and in neutral I can hear and feel it spinning and grinding inside the tranny area. If i push in the clutch it goes away.

So my question is what do you think it could be? Could it be the fly wheel not put in right or came loose? Or can it just be the clutch is gone? Thanks for the help in advance.

it could be the throwout bearing the flywheel and clutch not put in right or the screws backed out only way to find out is to drop the tranny and inspect everything

Well let me tell give you some pointes of things I went through on my experience. When my boy had his issue with his transmission it was a number of things popping out of gear. Now If would check the oil in the transmission first sometimes if you do not have enough oil it would pop out on you occasionally.

As for the pinning and grinding aspect when you hear te noice and it goes away its a moveable part inside the tranmission thats causing the noise I would check the clutch throw-out bearing. If its not the bearing change it anyway while its out the car for good measure. Then inspect the clutch while its out and the spings in it and the bolts on the flywheel to make sure that the bolts did not back out on their own.

The bolts that hold on the flywheel dont back out as much as they should but people do not take the time to carefully toque down the bolts to spec evenly along with loctite to make it stay in place to make sure the bolts dont back out on their own.

If the clutch was gone you would know it would be a constant vibration and perhaps the car wouldn't even move anywhere because there is no friction material in order for the flywheel to catch to it to move the cars transfering its rotational mass energy to move the car forward or backwards.

If your not careful if the clutch is messed up and gets caught it would tear up the transmission so bad you would probably need another one along with another clutch. Keep us posted and post pictures.

If your throw out bearing was the cause of the noise, you would hear the noise while the clutch was pressed to the floor, not the opposite. Because the noise stops when you disengage the clutch (press the pedal; disconnect the transmission), the noise is with a part in the transmission. It could be a bad shaft bearing, it could be a bad needle bearing (what the gears ride on), or it could be a broken synchro/gear/something else that is getting tossed all about in the transmission. Bottom line, if you can hear/feel the "noise" inside the cabin of the car, don't expect to be driving it any time soon.
