I just recently got a 93 LX manual with a bad starter
Before removal, if you go so much as close to the battery post with the cable it would arch/spark like crazy.
When I took it out that problem stopped. I found the bendix was stuck in the engaged position. I took the starter to get tested and both autozone and advance said the starter was good, before I pointed out the stuck bendix. I brought it home and manually pushed the bendix back in place.
Is the stuck bendix due to the plunger in the solenoid? Or do mitsuba starters have a bendix drive in the starter motor that propels it outwards and back in?
Also, would all the arching and sparking be caused by the bendix drive being messed up, or does that mean the solenoid is bad as well?
Does my starter sound like it is repairable or should I scrap it and go for a new one?
