ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Brake job question

Hey all, i just replaced the rear brake shoes on my accord and I wanna know it I did something wrong or not. The thing is, the new left shoe assembly will move back and forth when I move it but the l right one won't. It barely budges at all.

Donno what I could have possibly done wrong since all the things seem to be installed correctly.

Who knows, maybe its not a problem at all... but that's why I am asking you.

How do you know the right doesn't move and the left one moves? I hope you didn't take the drum off to look while pumping the pedal? Maybe you could explain in more details what you mean by moving back and forth. Did you check the cylinders for leaks. When you replaced the shoes did you turn the star all the way in and adjust after from there?

I mean moving them manually by hand. I thought I heard that you should be able to move them back and forth. The left one does but the right one won't. The adjusters on both are minimized all the way, and they are set up the same.

You could only move them with extreme force. Did you watch Eric the car guy video on the rear Oddysey drums, it's the same as our accord. I have to do mine soon.
I have done it on Corollas.

or one side can have worn hold down springs.

Always put a new spring kit when doing drums. Always lubricated and clean everything, lubricated especially behind the shoe where it contacts the drum plate. and also ALWAYS have the drums turned. It may look fine, but they are prone to tapered wear.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I put ALL new springs on them.

What does it mean to turn them. sandpaper works right?

Resurface. Sandpaper will do nothing for tapered wear. I seen people do brake drums and notice that it doesnt make any difference or better yet, worse. When I pull off the drum you can tell there is tapered wear cause only 30% of the surface is actually braking. When you resurface the drums you will get 100% even contact and better braking.

So, do I need to take them to a machine shop to resurface them or what?

And about my main question, is it a problem or not? Do I need to do something to fix it (how the shoes won't move)?

Okay guys, i figured it out. The lower spring wasn't set in its proper position and so the whole shoe wasn't either.

Got it figured out finally and now the job is done.

I just sanded the drums down for now, but I think you're right I probably need to resurface them (where?), only about 30-40% of the old shoes were worn and it was on the bottom while the top was not very worn.
