ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Does a/c recharge harm motor??

    Hi All

I want to re-charge my a/c but I'm worried the a/c will harm my motor because of it's age . Does the a/c unit have anything to do with the performance, or anything related AT all? Thanks All

Lol I just charged my A/C on my 93 lx with 360,000 miles on it! You are fine trust me. The engine is designed to lug the compressor clutch around and around. If it cant do that, then the second you took off down the road, all four rods would fall out on the ground and turn to dust.

EDIT: Mpg will suffer a tad and maybe lose a few ponies when its on. thats it.

I'm confused. What's all this r12 talk? I can't just get a canister from auto zone and re-fill?

no man because tree hugers say that it is harmfull to the environment which it id but still they just want you to upgrade to R134a. Not sure if R134a is cooler but its better for the environment.

But that(r134a) is just a different type or brand/recipe? -- also, my silver/foil covers are torn, / the ones that cover the pipes in from of the radiator./ is that BAD?

Search for information pertaining to R12 vs R134. This is not specific to our cars, there was a transition in the mid 90s. No, do not just put R134 into it, you need to clean the system out first.

Yeah, but not the end of the world. If there's still material, and just some tears, I'd cover it up with foil tape.

Id imagine foil tape wont keep the heat out. And it might get sticky and messy or not stick any more. Eather way i wouldnt use it.

Wrap it with header wrap. It works great.

You have to pull vacuum on the system to get the moisture out.

Also 134a and r12 makes "black death" thats ruins A/C systems.

                    134a is not as cold.

You can buy r12 off ebay. Youll need a scanner and printer tho. You have to sign a paper.

                    R12 is expensive.

Youll need 3 cans, a manifold and gauge set, oil, and a vacuum pump.

Itll run about $125 for the 12oz cans of r12.

Dont do it where people can see you. There is a tree hugger or two on this forum so dont be suprised if one shows up on this thread.

freeze 12 is a lot cheaper and works just as effectively as R12. I bought a can the other day for 20 bucks, had to have my friend who owns a shop buy it for me though since he's got certification

If you still have r12 in your a/c system, and your not planning on recharging with r12 again, take it to an a/c shop and have them capture that r12, so its not let into the atmosphere... otherwise if its already gone, then theres other alternatives available.

Check out http://www.autorefrigerants.com/ and look at EnviroSafe ES-12a.

Whao. WTf man I swear I'm so lost. How do I vacuum the system? If someone could post a thread, that would be great. - and why can't I just use the autozone " aC Pro "?

Ya you will have to flush the system to get the mineral oil out. You just can't put in 134a. The fittings are also different so even if you wanted to you just couldn't plug in a can of 134a.
