ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Why is my exhaust raspy?

So i just got done with my exhaust system. I had a muffler shop fix a previous issue, which was my progress sway bar hitting the exhaust piping. And they put in a new muffler, oem-like muffler with a 2in tip.

So my whole set is this..Megan header(about 2 years old), Magnaflow Cat(about 2 years old and a bit rusty now) welded to a custom 2in. exhaust piping with a 12 in resonator and 2in tip muffler. So 2in. straight through

Even before I had the muffler replaced, which is the original muffler when i bought the car, It was raspy and leaking a bit. The exhaust shop says it was the gasket where the cat is. I replaced it with a new one a month ago. It was still raspy. So even after all the work done at the exhaust shop, its still raspy. It's just not as raspy as before.

So after doing some research, I'm thinking I need another/bigger resonator. But even with that added, it will only silence the exhaust bit. NOW i'm thinking its the cat since its a bit rusty. It's only 2 years old but I dont know what else to replace/add to eliminate the rasp.

I need some input guys. What do you think i should do to eliminate the rasp?

Magnaflow cats don't have the best reputation for quality, even though it's a pretty respectable brand otherwise. Megan headers tend to accompany raspy systems... my friend has a megan header, SMSP cat (not a crappy unit, to my knowledge!), custom kteller "2.5" piping (in quotes because that's the outer diameter ) and a Dynomax VT muffler (with some weird valve thing that supposedly regulates airflow to increase low-end torque... it's annoying.) His exhaust has been somewhat raspy even with that stuff.
So my thought is... the header.

WOW. Interesting..even with all that great Kteller piping and a nice muffler, its still raspy?
I do have a spare "ebay" header, which is probably the eqivalent if not worse
than the Megan header. I might just swap and see what happens. It will probably get worse lol.
The megan header is showing signs of wear though..

Megan isn't much better than most "ebay" stuff anyway. Might be worth a shot! It's not like swapping will do any damage one way or another. It's just your time you'll be spending.

Put your car up on stands and crawl/roll under it. I had holes on top of my pipe that I didn't find until I did so and listened for leaks.

you need a better quality exhaust. My Apexi WS2 catback has a pretty long resonator, at least 15" paired up with an 18" long muffler thats about 8" tall and 10 inches wide.

You simply need to dampen the noise coming out the exhaust. One way you can do this is to add a glasspack somewhere in your exhaust, that'll help absorb some of the raspiness as well as make it less droney on the highway, it'll sound a little bit deeper as well.

Mmm..indeed i do need a better quality exhaust. I'm pretty much done with this one. Its a budget setup til I get bored or stumble upon a deal. It cost as much as the cheap ebay catbacks but in my opinion, better lol. I did want to get a quality catback in the future though..
