ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I doubt it's exhaust if your engine is running well. The crankcase is a pressurized environment due to the fast moving parts inside it an the continuously changing displacement. When your cylinders displace volume that volume comes from the crankcase. That's why we have crankcase vents and a PCV valve. Now might be a good time to verify the functionality of the PCV valve.

I dont think it's exhaust, pretty sure its just air pressure getting pushed out from the moving components. Yes it's normal.

There is blow-by on every engine, new or old. Older ones tend to have more blow-by than new ones.

As long as your engine is not using excess amount of oil and have good compression on all cylinders, your engine should be good.

Blow by I believe is more so air blowing by the rings causing a loss in compression. I'm pretty sure you are ok though.

You can place a piece of paper on the oil filler opening and see how much air is coming out, due to blow-by.

The pistons moving up and down don't create a net flow of air out of the crankcase. When two are moving up, the other two are moving down at the same rate, so there is a lot of air movement within the engine, but the pistons are not directly pumping air out of the crankcase. The air coming out of the valve cover is primarily leakage past the rings (blow by). This includes air leakage during the compression stroke as well as exhaust leakage during the power stroke. It will normally at least smell like oil. As previously indicated, if your engine is running well and compression is good, then you should be OK. If compression is low, then you may indeed be smelling exhaust.
