ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

2 or 4 jack stands for engine removal

Hi. I just want to know what would be better for engine removal: to jack up the car with 4 stands (having it level), or just using 2, thus making the front end raised up.

I personally think that having all 4 stands underneath and making the car level would be better because there may be a danger in hitting the radiator with the front raised. Plus, I think it would be easier to get everything unhooked with it level.

I would like some impute on this, gonna start a really important operation soon and am a noob (with an official service manual ).

    Thanks.

    Do it on the ground.

Yeah. Aside from pulling the axles, and maybe disconnecting the exhaust if you don't want to undo the header, you can do everything necessary for engine removal with the car securely on the ground.

So then, what I should do is use 2 stands in the front only as a means to work underneath, and when I am done, I can set it back down? Sounds like a good idea, I think it'll work.

        Ty.

I'd highly recommend wheel chocks for the rear if you do that. You do not want the car shifting and falling off the jackstands.

And unless you have a cherry picker with a long arm, having the car up in the air is going to make removing the engine hard. Hence the suggestion of leaving it on the ground.

Luckly for me I was at a shop with an overhead engine hoist so I didnt have to use a cherry picker. Wheel blocks are a good idea, I made sure the car was very stable before I went under it but it probally wasn't the safest idea.
