r12 to r134a conversion

Freeze12 was the best original replacement for r12, but even that has been discontinued. FYI es-12a, and industrial 12a are hydrocarbon based, which technically has not been approved for use in cars in the united states (but ok in houses), but the volotility of the mixture is less then 134a, meaning its technically safer.

How many cans should i get? Im looking at the master recharge kit. Would that do?

Also do i just fill my system which already has r12 in it with the r12a...as in top it off? Or do i need to drain the system and fill it with just the r12a?

Mixing the two would not harm the system. There is legistlation in place that makes it illegal to mix them, also doing so would ruin the purity of the r12, so if someone did try and recapture the r12 it will contaminate their store. If you still have r12 in your system, get a shop to recapture it, they might even pay you for it, its like liquid gold. Then go through the normal procedure to charge the system, which includes drawing a vacuum. Then follow the cans instructions in regards to substitution amounts.
