    Omega Engine Oil leak

Hey Cb7tuner. I have a oil leak coming from my engine. Long story short I looked over as much as I could with the engine in my car.

This is oil gunk under my distributer.

Oil gunk under the engine near the (CV joint.. I think?) on the passenger side

This is under the driver side of the engine bay

This is under the oil pan. There is fresh oil on the bolts.

This is my first time dealing with these things.I came to the conclusion that this could be because of the gaskets. Hopefully. The only place I recall seeing fresh engine oil was on the bolts of the oil pan. Everywhere else is crude gunk. I know when I got my first oil change the mechanic told me the oil pan has a stripped bolt, so they plugged it up with a rubber seal thing. It's a temporary measure until I could figure out what to do.

What do you guys think it is? Is there a "common" engine leak area?

there is really too much build up right now to say anything in particular but oil could be leaking from the distributor where it connects to the head as there is an O ring back there or it could be leaking at the cam hump and the corners to your valve cover. The oil pan gasket seems like it could stand to be replaced also. Got an oil change coming up soon?

Really i'd just get in there with some towels and wipe every thing down, go for a drive and then park it over night and check on it in the morning.

I would put a cardboard box under the car after you have cleaned the engine bay a little. Then let it sit over night.

If your dizzy O ring has not been replaced or your oil pan gasket i would look into getting those replaced. Possibly the valve cover gasket as well.

It looks like my bro in law neglect 97 Corolla. I would first use some WD-40 clean the whole car up. Most likely the distributor o ring. Check your internal distributor to make sure the bearing seal is still in tact. You don't have any pic of the valve cover. When the valve cover is leaking bad, you could soak the pan gasket and intake manifold. You just need to clean things up to see which one is the major leak. O ring for the distributor is sold at Honda dealer online for local pickup at $1.98 a piece. While you are at it, buy a new valve cover is it's leaking also. Check the PVC valve area, there's a gasket there that also could leak due to age, but not a lot. I would clean the axle up before that boot gets torn from the dirty oil sticking to it.

what type of camera are you using?

those are very nice up close and focused pics

i agree with the other posters and clean the bay first and then you should be able to spot the leak/s pretty quick

kinda looks like mine. Now im considering checking out my distributor. By any chance, would the O rings on the distributor make the misfire?
Would make sense too cause i smell a slight oil burning smell when i'm driving.

I thought i might have been my oil pan.. Break parts cleaner should work wonders though.
i too have a stripped bolts around the oil pan. a few probably.

              Omega?

Oil can, and often will, leak from any mating surface that could have a worn gasket. ESPECIALLY if the part isn't properly fastened.

Fix that issue with the oil pan. ALWAYS fix known problems before digging into the causes of other potentially related problems.

Other than that, get some engine degreaser, a bunch of shop towels, an old toothbrush, and some tylenol (for when you bump your head, or get a stiff neck!). Then get to work cleaning up that engine. Leaks are simple to detect when the engine is clean. So many people complain about trying to locate a leak through all that gunk, yet they never seem to think of actually CLEANING that gunk!

And to answer the question asked by the thread hijacker, yes, oil leaking into your distributor can cause plenty of issues.

On the very first picture, it seems like a red wire is just laying there. Yellow plastic plug thing is missing a wire. Maybe, the red wire should be hooked up to the yellow thingy?

To me, gunk indicates seepage and fresh oil indicates leakage. Both needs fixing for sure but take care of leakage first. Just as as every one says, cleaning is the first step.
