ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Why did you take the old trans computer out? And if your car doesn't have the "sport" mode, I don't know if I'd use a computer that has it. Why not just get the same trans computer, that way you SHOULDN'T have any issues.

      "pre-tuned to sport mode"?

Sport mode is a feature found in 90-91 model CBs only. If you have a 92-93, it won't work unless you make some changes. It's a relatively useless feature, nothing "sporty" at all. It just makes the shift points later at partial throttle. The 92-93 models made some changes that essentially integrated that automatically, removing the need for a separate "mode".

So yes, if you have a 92-93, that tcu is for a 90-91, and is useless to you. If someone sold you on that "sport mode", you got hustled.

Why exactly did you change your tcu/tcm?

What do you mean "pre-tuned to sport mode"? Instead of a switch on the shifter, they "jumped" it to make sport mode on all the time?

A S light on all the time can be a sign of a bad tcu/tcm, have you attempted to pull any codes off the ex-r tcm?

I am not sure how the cb's in Canada are equiped, they might not have the shifter release function. Its also possible that a different wire is used to signal the release of the shifter.

When people would use prelude tcu's they would get the same problem your having, in order to fix it you would have to do the following:

To make the shift lock operate properly you will need to run a wire from the shifter position switch to the tranny controller. On the left side of the shifter there is a box with about 5/6 wires going into it. This is the shifter position switch. You need to tap into the GRN/WHT wire and run it back to pin A7 on the TCM. Plug A is the bigger of the 2 plugs.

Oh and since we are on the subject of tcu/tcm's, you should really have a look at this thread: DIY: 90-93 Tcu Fix / Preventative Maintenance

        I hope that helps

You CAN "tune" a TCU... but it's something that really should be done in the fine-tuning stages of a complete build. Shift points can be tuned to a performance-built engine's powerband with effective results. It's not something you just buy and slap in the car, though... not if you expect anything good from it!

I wish we could "tune" a our tcu's like an ecu, adjusting shift points would be such a nice thing to be able to do, especially for engine builder/swappers.

In all likely hood it would be possible, the components the tcu use are very similiar to our ecu's. Theres a spot on the circuit board for a 28-pin e/eeprom, but someone would need to either dump the programming directly from the microprocessor's rom, or find a tcu that has an eprom already installed into the circuit board. The next step would be to know what to look for.

                Get on it, brotha!

It's done regularly on many other cars. Especially with today's modern performance cars with high-end automatic transmissions (or automated manuals... same concept when it comes to computer controls, really.) I'm sure there are a number of companies/tuners that modify the transmission computers for cars like the R35 GT-R, most Mercedes Benz models, the EvoX, the M3, Ferraris and Lamborghinis... There are an abundance of computer-controlled transmissions in performance cars today, and there have been for a number of years. I'd be willing to say with certainty (without even searching) that many such tuners exist.

They just don't exist for our cars... if they do, they are few and far between... most likely just hobbyists that "cracked the code", if you will. Our old automatic transmission designs aren't really high-tech enough for people to really bother tuning anyway. Today's automatics are superior to today's manuals... but yesterday's automatics have earned the term "slush box".
