Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Strange Oil Leak

Has anyone ever seen one of these cars leak oil on the back of the engine on the timing cover side of the engine, just below the intake?

I took a picture to show the area of the engine I mean. I have checked to make sure it's not something stupidly simple like the cam cover. It's completely dry.

It's in this area of the engine. It looks like it runs down the back of the block, but I can't see from where, or from what. There doesn't seem to really be anything in this area that oil would leak out of.

It's difficult to see exactly where you're pointing (and I have an H22 in my car, so I can't look at my own for reference.) Is the leak seeming t come from the timing belt cover itself? If so, your camshaft seal may be leaking... which would be a big deal, because oil will seriously weaken the timing belt, causing it to fail.

Other than that, perhaps the head gasket... but that would seem odd given the placement of it. If the gasket was replaced, maybe it wasn't done properly (an improperly cleaned or damaged mating surface could result in a leak like that.)

The best thing to do is to hit the area with degreaser and a long brush. Clean it as well as you can. Then keep a close eye on it for the leak to reappear. When it does, the exact source should be clear.

I have a leak in the same spot. I went to advanced and got the front crank seal kit. Has all the seals you need to do the ones around the camshaft, crank seal and everything all for around $21. I am doing it Saturday and will find out if that is the right spot (seems to be though) I will keep you updated.

Like deev stated, it's probably the cam seal. The only ways oil can get there is by leaking cam seal, leaking head gasket, leaking valve cover gasket, and spillage. do you have oil on the ground as well? If so look behind the drivers wheel, at the bottom of the lower timing cover, below the crank pulley, there should be a drip forming.

Here's a pic of said area without sometimes finger in the way...

It was the cam seal. I took it all apart today, and found out someone before he has done all the lower gaskets and none of them are leaking, but they never replaced the cam seal. Lazy pricks.

Got the seal at Honda and installed it. Not much of a fun job but it's bone dry now.

Did you replace the timing belt at the same time? I don't imagine the belt escaped getting oil on it... and it could snap unexpectedly if it did.

Somehow it did. The leak just started a couple days ago. it was dry when I took it off. It's a brand new Gates belt.

I'm gonna probably replace everything in there in the next month or two. I made the unpleasent discovery that the car has more miles than the odometer says. I'm gonna just do it all correct since it was pretty easy to start with. I did this because the oil leak was pissing me off.
