Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    AC compressor

    so my ac compressor has a leak
    i haven't had to deal with compressors yet so im a little skeptical about the rices im getting, my mechanic quoted me $250 for a replacement, autozone quoted me $200 for a re manufactured and $250 for a new one

    i went online and found re-manufactured ones for 100-130 and used working ones with warranty for about 65-80 bucks
    Is it worth buying a used one given that they are about 20 years old? how strong are these things?
    and if i order online, is there different types of compressors for different models or engines? example: ex, lx, f22a4, f22a6... if ac compressors are universal to all cb models then basically any would do right?

    not trying to cheap out here but ive found many motor parts for allot cheaper online before so if i can save i will

    quick question

    is removing the ac compressor doable without pulling the engine? i cant find pics of where it is located or a "how to" or diy

      Yes. There's 4 bolts that hold it to the block and two hoses.

      The A/C compresser is under the alternator. It has 4 bolts holding it directly to the block.

          No need to remove the engine but there is a lot of other things that need to be removed to get to it. It sucks big time, but seeing you're from San Antonio I would want A/C.

            The belt tensioner is a slider on the alternator bracket. Before you remove that belt you have to remove the power steering belt. It also has a small, mechanical tensioner.

            For cleaning instructions you may want to check out Gummiegorilla's A/C DIY. It's a retrofit process but you may need the information when you see how difficult it is to buy R-12.

              id take the whole ac unit out. your going to need a new belt. cleans the bay up nice too

                Just buy a used OEM one. These compressor almost never go bad unless physically abuse. While you are at it, replace the o rings from the hose that goes to it. Not sure if you need to replace the dryer as well.
