ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Is the person at the testing center checking your timing, or is this at the shop where you have to take it to get it to pass? It being obd1 is why I am asking, why do they care what the timing is?

I completely understand what your saying. And you are 100% correct. I was just saying, from his posts above, the testing center where he lives or the shop he has to take it to, they must check the timing. The area where i live at, on our cars, the testing center just basically checks these 3 things:

          1- fuel cap
2- visual inspection for the cat. (they slide a mirror under the car)
3- they do the tail pipe sniffer test.

If the testing center (or shop) is checking the timing (and they must be), he is going to have to correct whatever the issue is. I was going to say if it was like the area where i live, and if his car is close to passing, sometimes you can just retard the timing a bit, and it will pass. I am sure of this because it happened with my car. And after some calling around to local shops, they told me this is how they are getting some cars to pass (i am referring to retarding the timing just to get the car to pass). I don't agree with it because it makes the whole emissions testing thing a joke.

But from what he is writing above, that may not be possible. My bad if I caused any confusion. Good luck.

correct however california emissions are so tough that you have to alter things that are still within limits to make it pass. there are other ways to get a car to pass but it is more on the smog technician itself.

ive seen octane and retarding the timing drop 200-300ppm nox on a car.
