ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Gas needle stuck!

The gas needle in my dash is stuck above the F. Its been like that since I got the car. Last night i noticed the backlight behind the curve is out. Is it possible this is just a short or something in the dash, and not the float in the tank as diagnosed by my mechanic/neighbour? Ive been buying $10 gas at a time till the gas light comes on so it doesnt surprise me or run out at the wrong time, but its really annoying.

the gauge itself is mostlikely bad or the screws that attatch it to the cluster were over tightned or loose, also chance at sending unit.

Assuming that you have not taken the cluster out, If it is stuck in one position, it is most likely the sending unit in the tank.
Mine stayed on about 1/4th of a tank when I got her, so I just used a sending unit from an old tank I had. It had a bit of surface rust (cleaned as best I could), but it works. It has been functional for over a year now.

There is an access hole in the trunk. Fold down the seat and lift the cardboard thing and it is a round silver thing with 3 screws holding it. That will give you access to the tank.
I believe the actual unit is held in by a snap-ring sort of deal. I used a flathead and a hammer to turn the ring thing and it came right out. I believe there are 2 connectors to be unplugged before lifting it out, they are right there on top.

Overall, this job can be done by someone with limited knowledge in a short amount of time. Good Luck

thanks, I appreciate it, sounds simple enough, and i can get one from the jy. Im going to try that as soon as i get a chance. Trying to avoid taking the cluster out but may have to do that anyway.

change the gauge, if its still jacked up then youu have to take out your back seat and remove your float cause its rusted stuck

yeah im thinking if the light is out behind the gauge it might still not work if i change the float, just worried everything wont line up perfect when i put it back together

ive come to find that normally when the gauge is bad it pegs the needle past full, not emty. seems to be the most common over sending unit.
