ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Rebuilding a CB7 power steering pump?

I am thinking about rebuilding the PS pump. Has any one done it? Any pics DIY or video? Buying a reman or even a new one is expensive. I was thinking about rebuilding it myself. I think my pump is leaking. Though not losing fluid yet. but I see a little wet on the bottom of the pump. I think it's the thin gasket or O ring between the layers of the pump rather than pulley oil seal.
Any one has experience that can share?

    Thanks.

depending on my experience ... well yes I am new but I have already disassembled and reassembled my pump so many times ... well haven't used honda PSF yet .. but I can assure you it is leaking from the oil seal.

the hard part which gave me a back ache today is how to install it back on the car... still giving me a squeaking noise ..... disassembling it and rebuilding it is a PIECE OF CAKE ... you just need to pay attention ( use your phone cam for pictures ) to the removal process ... cause it has many parts that can be re-installed side-ways (especially plungers A & B)... but if you do install anything side ways .... it will make a big mess ... .a really big one in the engine bay, will spit PSF like bullets ..... LOL

I should write a story me and my ps/p ... the problem though i am facing is that each time I tighten the 6 10mm bolts that hold the pump together ... the pulley shaft becomes harder to turn by hand ... weird

    PS: mine is still leaking

I'm thinking about doing this rebuild as well but after hearing of your struggles I may just get a used from the junk yard for $35 shipped.

Rebuilding it is actually pretty easy just make sure you replace all the gaskets with OEM Honda gaskets they are cheap. like stated already if its your first time take pics of the tear down so when you put it back together you have no problems.

Your rebuilding troubles may come down to the fact that you aren't using Honda PSF. When my Dad got his latest 5th Gen Accord, the pump was screaming and leaking. All I did was flush the power steering system completely and refill with Honda PSF. Pump is quiet and no leaks.

Always use Honda PS fluid in Honda power steering systems, no exceptions or you will have problems.

As already said, easy to rebuild.

The exploded view you can get on www.hondaautomotiveparts.com will serve as a good reference for disassembly and reassembly, and also for getting the parts.

              Why not just replace?

I rebuilt mine. It was easy. Words of advise, the nut for the pulley on the PS pump is reverse thread. Also, I cleaned all the internal parts with brake cleaner. I picked up an Edelmann PS rebuild kit, some brake cleaner, and some HPSF. Parts maybe totaled $30.

Brand new one complete is pretty expensive. Used one from a JY may be just as bad as the one you've got. Seat kit is relatively inexpensive and the rebuild is easy.

I decided finally to put honda PSF ... the problem is that the honda dealer here is a rip-off I might order it online ... I just wanna know how many quartz/litres I need to flush and replace the psf !!

the honda dealer wants 20$ per 1 litres.

yo man that's costly, here it cost me $11/liter, anyway you won't regret buying it because this will take care your PSP. The reason why we have this problem is mainly the fluid that we put into the pump.
