ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    MP1A Transmission swap question.

I know it's not a CB7 but I was directed here from another forum and I was hoping you guys could help.

First thing is first. 1996 Accord EX with F22B1 stock motor stock automatic transmission.

Before you ask, Auto to Manual swap is out of the question. Nearest person that even knows how is 700+ miles away. My car can't even make it 10 miles.

Here's my question. I'm tired of my gear ratios, they're absolutely waaaay too long, so I was looking at the MP1A 4 speed transmission from the Prelude. I've read that the transmissions are interchangable. My question is, HOW interchangable? Do I just need to change out the physical transmission and go on with my life? Or will I need special cables, sensors, engine harness etc.

I want to do all of this in one weekend so I don't want to hook everything up and find out I forgot a special screw that needs to be overnighted from Japan and won't arrive until next week and it'll cost $200 for shipping because f*** me.

From what I've read the MP1A does NOT have an "S" mode or anything. It's just 1,2,D3,D4,N,R,P like the stock transmission in my car.

Some come with an LSD but I will be getting to one without LSD.

Can anyone help me out? Anyone else here done an Auto to Auto conversion?

Is the transmission from the prelude obd1? I would use the accord mounts but I believe you should use the tcu from the prelude. The s light will always be on. The honda "sports" button is a joke. :P I hope this helps.

take accord one out put prelude one in. it will be a direct replacement just as if you were putting in another accord trans. you can use your accord tcu, but the one from the prelude will be better suited for your purpose.

If your not reving the motor any higher, theres no need to use the prelude tcu. It also has an issue where it doesn't have the safety interlock feature, meaning that you will not be able to get it out of P without using the key to the side of the shifter, or disabling the feature (its a hack).

Unless your changing motors with the transmission, just use the accord tcu.

EDIT: Since your accord is 96, I believe that means its obd2, and for obd2 cars the ecu/tcu are the same part. So in the case of your swap, it should just be the transmission you change.

I'm in sorta the same boat as this guy. Except I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX Auto. My transmission went out so I bought a MP1A and it has LSD. I was wondering if I should get an OBD1 Prelude TCU and if so what will that do differently than the stock Accord TCU I have now?

Thanks in Advance for any help.

OBD2 Has a single control unit, OBD1 Has two, but if youre involved with it
              they have:

i dont know it it helps id assume an older ODB2 car would be ver. a which is almost like 1 but new connectors and some other data channels.
so with this you could run separate ecu and tcu.
              http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBD2A-TO-OBD...-/190905161658

you might be able to cut the harness in half and use the stock ecu then pig tail out to a separate tcu.

or just run the stock ecu and do the swap as if it were an exact replacement, plug and play

I don't think you would need to swap TCU's in this case. Being that you have an LSD says that both wheels turn the same way when in drive. If I remember correctly the TCU is mainly for shift points at x RPM base on driving conditions, and information coming from the ECU. You should be just fine.
