ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    oem vs poly bushing

Ok, I've searched and tried a couple different key words and for the most part all I got was mrt's saying how they got poly bushings. The few that weren't mrt's were just comparing the two. Just like everyone I need to change my bushings by now and was trying to find a whole kit. I've seen the prothane kit but haven't seen a oem kit. I went to auto zone and got a quote from them ~$850 for all bushings with new arms(moog) they don't have just bushings.
Now...if my car is most likely never going to see track time but will be lowered more in the future (current 1.7 drop) does it matter to have poly or can I just get oem hard rubber? And is it necessary to replace the arms as well? $200 is a lot less than $850 obviously, but just need to know if I'd really need to go poly.Thanks.

All those are poly, oem would be cheaper right? Oem quality I mean. I know poly last longer and stiffer and yada but if you can answer those questions that would help too. Thanks for the link though by the way could be useful.

Unless you have connections, I have yet to find OEM bushings that cost less than Poly. Unless you get lucky and some one wants to get rid of after purchase. Usually the OEM bushings are sold seperately instead of a full kit like the Poly.
As far as the main difference is stiffness. If the OEM ones lasted almost 20 years, then it doesn't really matter to me which ones. I would rather get OEM if they are cheaper and more readily available.

I wouldn't mind getting the master kit and then using OEM rubber bushings in the lower control arms where the shocks mount to. That's probably your most centralized load there. And 20 years later ANY replacement is better than what's on the car. There are probably a few cases that you could swap out certain old bushings for polyurethane and actually end up with a more comfortable ride due to the way some deteriorate.

Well the only reason I asked the question in the first place was because like I said I'm not racing so I figured I'd just go with oem. But if thats the case I'll look at the master kit some more.

Yeah I mean that's why Im really needing to get it taken care of for a little bit better peace of mind. I could see how the oem/poly combo could work but I don't know enough about suspension or have enough time to test different things ya know? Thanks both for the relies btw

If you were to aquire the parts from an authorized honda dealer, I am pretty sure they are going to be more expensive then the poly kit.

Cheaping out on suspension components is dangerous and can cause you to crash, ruining your car, and injuring yourself and possibly other people. So whatever replacement brand you might be deciding upon, it would be in your best interest to post the information up, so you can get the communities views on it, or try using the search function and typing in the brand / part name for reviews.

I have yet to tackle the suspension components on my cb, even though they are 21-22 years old most likely, fortunately the previous owners of my car took REALLY good care of it, and every time I've checked, and had my mechanic check, they are still in good condition visually. Although my car has been garage parked for the last 2 years, once I can put it back on the road, and get it to the shop, I'll check them again.

The front poly kit will be the best option. It will be the cheapest, and ride quality does suffer slightly from stock, but not a huge amount. I have the Energy Suspension front master kit on my car, and am pleased. Having your car lowered isn't going to matter for the bushings, and actually, the stock Honda bushings are pretty damn good. The poly bushings will also increase road noise a bit.

I would say you would be completely fine with OEM if you wanted to go that route, and probably the best way to do it is www.hondaautomotiveparts.com. In most cases, they are very competitive with any box retail autoparts store, and I can tell you from countless years of experience that their shit is FAR superior. There is a reason the original parts made it 20 years and most Autozone/Checker, Schucks, Kragen. O'Reilly parts don't.

Also, if you give them the VIN, they will get you the right bushings (even though all CB7's should be the same). I can't count the number of times a retail store told me the part was right, and it wasn't, which was just a hassle, especially with the car torn apart.

Exactly why I was looking at either oem or kits like Energy Suspension and I can't remember if Prothane is highly reguarded but I've heard of em. The previous owner is a huge honda guy (was building a 900hp civic when I bought the car) and he took good care of it but that was four years ago and time to get stuff taken care of. Thanks for the help

Yeah my old man has been telling me to go oem because he put poly on his chevelle and said it squeaked. But like I said I was quoted about $850 for basically all brand new front components and all I really need is bushings so thanks for the link that'll help. First site I've seen with just bushings by themselves. I would go to dealership but I know I'd be paying out the ass.

That IS a dealer. They just sale at wholesale. They are genuine Honda parts, not cheap knockoffs.

If your dad's Chevelle was squeaking, one of two things was wrong.

                    1) He didn't lube the bushings enough.

                    2) He didn't relube them after time. They do eventually need to be relubed to prevent squeaking.

How do you re-lube poly bushing after installation with what lubricant?

Yeah Id rather go to dealer if I decide to get oem. But I didn't know that, do you have to grease the oem ones?
