I just bought a 99 h22a. Engine, tranny, ecu, All wire harness. Was just looking through the swap guide and it only said about obd1 h22's. So now im stuck. Can this be used and work well in my 93 cb7? Any changes i might have to make to make this thing work. Got one hell of a deal on all of it, and would love to make this thing turn out. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Will this h22 work..?

You will ether have to convert the engine over to OBD1 or your harness to OBD2. I would opt for switching the engine over myself. You can use most if not all of the OBD1 sensors from your Accord F22A engine.
The ECU has an immobilizer chip in it and will not work without the complete prelude ignition system & key. Your best bet for an ECU would be to get an OBD1 P13 or a chipped and H22 tuned Civic/Integra OBD1 ECU.Last edited by GhostAccord; 02-03-2012, 01:14 PM.

So your saying that all in all it won't work? I was thinking of using my f22 trans because I heard that it is better for boost, which I plan on doing. Like I said I got one hell of a deal and I don't want to see this go. I'm sure it will be a head ache but it won't be getting dropped in the car for another 8 months. Just trying to get a idea of what I'm getting in myself into and if I should keep going with this engine.

I'm not saying it won't work. I'm saying that if it's from an SH, it will be slightly more difficult to install. The transmission will not fit (only if it's an SH. regular Prelude will be fine.) The F22 transmission has longer gears, so in a way it's better for boost in terms of drag racing performance. However, the Prelude transmission's shorter gears provide a faster initial acceleration.
First, determine what your engine is coming from. Make your decision from there.

alright. well im going to contact the guy i bought the engine off of and see what model the car was. like i said i would like to use the f22 trans, and from what your saying that will work. Also about the harnesses, would this be a problem to? And thank you all for the help. Very much appreciated!

Brent, is this a JDM motor? I saw you posted it as an H22A - Deever was the only one to mention is as an ATTS tranny (which the JDM Accords didn't have).
If you get a good deal you can always sell parts you want. I do very much agree that if turbo is your long term goal that you stick with a F22/F23 and boost that.
The F22 trans will work with the H22 just fine (what I did). If you get a good deal great - but definitely consider the OBD1 conversion into that too. It isn't easy to find OEM P/H prelude injectors. Research those parts Deever mentioned and add it to your swap cost.
I ended up spending about $2k on an engine swap (after selling F22 parts to make up for it). If I wanted to boost that would have been a hell of a forward step in boosting an F22.

Just double checked the engine. Its saying its a h22a4. Now i just looked at the picture of the tranny and the trans looks like that, But i dont have that other unit. They guy gave me everything with the swap and he had the shop take it all out and told the guy this is what you need to sell to go with the engine. Like i said i dont have that other unit. And you said you have your f22 trans hooked up to it? how did the trans take the engine. I plan on rebuilding the whole engine and then going for boost as i said earlier. But how will the trans hold up to that. Any extra work i will need to put into the tranny. Does it shift smooth with it connected to that engine. And thank you all again, You have all been a great help to my project!

Both the normal 5th gen Prelude and the Prelude SH engines are stamped H22A4. Find out if it's from an SH. If the guy doesn't know, ask for the VIN of the car it came out of. If he can't give you that... chances are good that the engine is stolen, and you don't want it anyway!
The F22's transmission is every bit as strong as the H22's. It will hold up to boost just fine.
Have you done research regarding what it takes to build an engine for boost? Specifically an H22A? It's not cheap.
Seriously, boosting the F22A would be a much cheaper route, and easier in some ways. You can make more power than you'll ever need in a FWD street driven car with a boosted F22A. Hell, the most powerful car on this site is running a boosted F22A.
