ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

There's really no need to use synthetic. If that's what you want, just be sure to use a quality brand. For an old F22A that's not doing anything crazy, there's really no difference between "the best" and anything else of acceptable quality.

Reset the oil life? What do you mean by that?

How many miles you can go should depend on how you drive the car, and how often. I put synthetic in my 09 Fit, and I drive it about 10,000 miles per change. This is because I drive 10,000 miles every 5-6 weeks.
I'd say keep an eye on your level and oil condition. You should be able to get 5,000-7,000 out of a good synthetic with no problems. Maybe more, but keep in mind this is an older engine, and it surely already has a fair amount of wear.
With that in mind, be on the lookout for leaks, as synthetic oil tends to be thinner than regular oil, especially when hot. It may leak from places that regular oil didn't leak from.

I think he means the little indicator that changes colors... Just stick a key in the little slot and it will go back to green.

The best? Redline, Amsoil, or probably Joe Gibbs but that stuff is expensive. Unless you're racing or are running something like a motorcycle or air-cooled engine its unnecessary.

I went from 5-30 synthetic mobil 1 in my GF's car to Rotella t6 5w40 when it hit 100k miles. The oil looks great (cleaning but not burning) and the car doesn't "use" nearly as much, probably uses 2/3-3/4 less oil than with mobil one. I also run it in my 410ci Ford fwiw.

You can pick up a gallon for 20 dollars from time to time and for the quality of oil its a great deal. I change both of our cars at 5k miles when they are driven regularly.

I decided to use it in my honda and its been good too. It is a little heavier than the recommended 5-30 but with over 100k on it I'm not worried. Also, some car companies recommend a light weight oil just to pass emissions and fuel consumption tests when the cars are new.

ok thats enough rambling. If you're really into tech and oil check out bobistheoilguy.com its a very interesting site.

I wouldn't use a synthetic oil in these old engines unless it was recently rebuilt with all new seals since the detergents in them clean away all the buildup that seems to be blocking a oil leak. Heck even those high mileage oils caused my other older vehicles to drip oil onto the driveway after a drive but stop as soon as i switch back to conventional oil.

If anything, i'd just get a good oil filter. I like the Purolator One that have the gold gritty texture to them.

I use synthetic, what ever brand I can get a good deal on. Not too many available. The one I am using is from O'Reilly. I use it on my 90 Accord LX and 99 Corolla VE. The accord has 152K miles on it and the corolla 157K. No leaks, the corolla does consume about half a quart b/w changes. I change the oil at 6000 miles.

I agree with everything you are saying. But at the same time I do recommend a rebuild depending on how many miles are on the engine. I'm all for increasing the longevity of a great engine. If an oil change is needed now I would just use what you have been using, it will cause less "drama".
