ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Auto Transmission woes, surging issue

Hello, I've got a 1993 Auto Accord LX, 82k miles, and I should have bought a 5 speed, heh.

    2 problems,

1, My Accord has an occasional shifting issue from take off.
Most of the time, it functions perfectly all gears work, smooth shifts, etc, but sometimes from a stop in d4, d4, or 1, the car won't move forward with the brake released. When Throttle is applied revs will increase and the car will move forward as if its in 4th, no torque. Once it gets around 1700-2000 rpm the car will shudder and drop into gear very harshly (probably why my rear mount is dead).
It will keep doing this until I bring the car to a stop and cycle the gear shift to park, then back down to d4. If I do that it'll function normally again, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for an hour.
    If I shift into 2 the trans responds normally (d4, d3 and 1 use 1st gear, 2 doesn't).
It tends to do this more commonly if I'm going between reverse back to drive, or when i'm parking.

The car isn't flashing any codes, I did a drain and fill and the old fluid looked perfect (it's always had honda fluid, now has dw-1/z1). I've cleaned and checked the lock-up solenoid but haven't gotten the shift solenoid off. The TCU looked fine when I opened it up.

To me it seems like the torque converter isn't engaging properly in 1st, but I don't understand why it would happen so infrequently.

    Second issue, also intermittent,

Occasionally on start-up my car will rev up to 2800rpm and stay there for about a minute, then drop slowly down to it's regular cold idle.
When it does this high rev shit, if I even engage the shifter and move it an eighth of an inch it will cause the idle to drop down to 1400 and start surging to 2000, and it will keep surging until it warms up or I put it in drive and keep it there.
Any time it does this idle surge, the transmission problem will occur as well.

It usually cold idles around 1600 but creeps up to around 2000 rpm, then will drop back down as it warms up. I've cleaned my FITV but haven't adjusted it.
    Coolant level is fine.

Could this be a bad thermostat?

Any insight on these problems would be appreciated, I'd love to do a 5-spd swap and I have access to a full bay/lift but I don't have the time/money.
And besides, the car is absolutely perfect other than these issues, it was purchased in 1998 with 0 miles by a honda tech, he was the only other owner.

Your TCU isn't throwing any codes?

I would definitely check out the VSS. Do you have an FSM to diagnose with?
