ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

weird start when it's really cold

hey guys. Lke the title says..my cb has a weird start when it's really cold out. It happens usually in the mornings or when the car has ben sitting there for hours. So i go to turn the key to start the car..but it does nothing til about 5 seconds later, then it starts up normal. So I have to turn and hold the key for about 5 secconds til it starts. The car starts up perfectly fine in 30+ degree temperatures. I checked around the battery for any corrosion and its pretty clean. The battery seems ok, although I havnt tested it out yet. I searched the threads and i can only find similar problems, nothing exact. I'm thinking it could be the main relay? Any idea guys? much appreciated

You'll have to determine if the issue is due to a lack of fuel or a lack of spark. The main relay would result in a lack of fuel. However, they usually only fail in hot weather, not cold.

Batteries are known to go weak in the cold, so that would be my first thought. Have it tested, or if it's old, replace it. Do you have a sealed cell battery (like an Optima), or is it a traditional battery with water chambers? If it's the oldschool style, then make sure there's water in there.

So are you saying it doesn't turn over(crank) for about 5 seconds? Or it turns over but won't fire for about 5 seconds? Big difference in diagnosis and repairs.

I believe it's a traditional battery. I was thinking of replacing it since it is old. thanks dev.
It doesn't turn over for about 5 seconds. After that, it THEN cranks normal. Sorry for the confusion.
