ok this is the problem. had the car sitting for awhile so i started it up cranked good. i let it run for bout 15 mins drove it around the block. then i washed it off turned then so as i put it back in gear to move it, it shuts off and white smoke started comeing from the intake. when you smell the intake it smells like gas and it smokes everytime you turn it over to crank it. any ideas of what it could be?

Sounds to me like your belts slipped and thrown your timing out of wack.That is the only reason i know of that can cause a back fire or smoke on the intake side of things.Last edited by SOHC-FTW; 10-09-2011, 01:45 PM.

I have seen small carbureted engines do that when they die when I have the air cleaner off.Comment

it shouldn't be the timing i just changed motors and all my belts. would it do that if the intake sucked water into the motor or anything?who dat do datComment

Why would it be sucking water?
Just because your belts are new doesn't mean you haven't jumped time or installed the timing belt correctly.I've heard oh my timings dead on, but 8 times outta 10 the timings all out of wack.

I now see why you might think waters in it.Is it just an open TB?or full intake?How long ago was this?You could have shorted something out spraying it off maybe it will dry in a few hours.If it still doesn't start check for spark and make sure your timing is dead on the money.

it's a short ram intake. and as soon as i washed the car i dryed it off then put it in drive it shut off and through smoke out. i rasied the hood and tried to crank again and thats when i seen the smoke was coming from the intake. thanks man ill try all that.who dat do datComment

it's comeing out of the intake tude so i guess it's the manifold. ya i have spark cuz when you try to crank it, it sputters then the smoke comes out.who dat do datComment

That doesn't mean you have enough spark.If its struggling to start then its not getting one of the 3 things it needs Air,fuel,spark or not getting enough of one.You smell fuel so im going to go with spark a short or a large vaccum leak somewhere.Originally posted by stretch View Post
