ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

    Radiator upgrade

I have been looking a bit and haven't seen much on possible radiator upgrades.

Are there stock radiators from others cars (prelude perhaps) that people use to upgrade. If the radiator wasn't half plastic, I would consider that a big selling point.

Why do you want to upgrade your radiator? The stock radiator should be fine for any build. If you want to upgrade for looks, go on ebay and look for a half size aluminum radiator. This will also require you to lose A/C though.

Automatic civic or del sol si have them dual core. Our radiators including preludes are single core.

If you want to upgrade do that or either get a new aluminum dual core rad.

There are plenty of aluminum aftermarket radiators to be found.

However, do you have a need for an upgrade? If not, it's pointless. In fact, improving the cooling system too much could result in the engine operating below optimal operating temperature, which could result in accelerated wear of internal parts.

would it matter if the aluminum radiator is for MT only or AT only

I am part of a chumpcar team, so we endurance road race the car. The stock radiator worked fine for the 2 races we did this year, but both were pretty cool 75 or less. We plan to bring a spare to future races so we thought why not put an upgrade in the car and use our current one as a spare.

The series we race in try to keep costs in check by limiting upgrades. So putting in a better used radiator will draw a lot less attention then swaping in a shiny new unit.

And just to quantify endurance road racing, that is running 7-24 hours straight at 4k-redline, with 5 minutes breaks every 2 hours for fuel. So we do put a pretty heavy load on our cooling system.

we run a manual tranny, so no tranny cooler, needed. Also AC, PS and all other creature comorts are removed.

Ah, ok. That makes sense then.

pupildel, automatic radiators have an added transmission fluid cooler in them. You can use an auto radiator for a manual, but not the other way around (unless you run an aftermarket cooler... they do exist.)

so i went to the shop. pulled the radiator from the accord put both on a stand and syfered their differences. the 99 prelude (manual) rad was a bit wider about an 3/4-1 in. (guessing). the bump stops at the bottom were also in different spots. and the top cylinders that the brackets go around were different. othere than that it was plug and play
so i squeezed the wider rad in( pain in the butt), jacked up the car, and took off the ruber bumps on the rad and moved them to the spot were it was suposed to be, so the rad wasnt sittin on metal and to sit a little higher. once that was done i moved to the brackets up top, the cylinder thingys werent tall enough at this point so i got 2 big cone style wire conectors and set them on top. ( dont laugh ) and put the bracket over top. now only one bolt will line up on the bracket to work to fit snug. (thought about drilling tapping and dyeing threads but thats another day.) hoses line up perfect, put the clamps on and fill with fluid. oh yea the bracket that holds the ac line i had to bend upwards to clear the rad by 1/4 in. not even noticable. will have pics up soon.
by the way when i was filling with fluid my water pump (which i believe is the culprit ) was leaking almost as fast as i was filling it. go figure.
when can i move up from newcomer?
