ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    f22a1 Tranny with a h22a

Would This combo work? I am thinking about getting a h22 long lock with a few minor problems and rebuilding it with oem parts, but it has no trans and I have a low mile f22a1 trans with a spec stage 2 clutch and a spec 8lb flywheel. Should I just build the h22 and sell my current motor and trans?

The F22's transmission will work just fine with the H22. The gears are longer, which is good for highway fuel economy, but not so great for acceleration. The biggest problem being that when you shift when racing, you'll end up below the VTEC crossover point in the next gear, which is basically a dead spot in the powerband. If you don't plan on doing any real racing, you probably won't even notice, though.

yeah I run autocross and I am the middle of making it a track car. so I guess thats pretty important. Do h22 trannys run expensive and if I tune on hondata and tune the vtec a little lower could that be a possible solution?

If you run autocross, then yes... I'd get the shorter-geared H22 transmission. In fact, I would look for one equipped with an LSD (M2B1 I believe is the code... i don't have one myself.)

You could lower the VTEC crossover point a bit, as it's set high from the factory (around 5200, where 4800 seems to be optimal.) Honda did that because the high engagement point provided a nice "kick" at the crossover... that kick sold LOTS of Preludes! I kept my engagement high simply because I enjoy that kick myself.
However, a slightly lower point will hardly be felt... providing a smooth transition to the VTEC lobes. That is actually the best for a smooth powerband, even if it's not quite as entertaining. Setting it TOO low will simply provide the opposite effect. Instead of exceeding the upper limits of the non-VTEC lobes, you'll be in the "soggy" end of the VTEC lobes... so you'll still have a dead spot. It's something you could play with. I'm not sure exactly where the F22 transmission will put you in the RPM range, so you may not be able to set it to work effectively for you... but it's worth a shot. Someone else may be able to provide better info (I've only had an H22 transmission on my H22, so I have no experience there.)

I'll look into it since I am trying to find a h22 long block for cheap and rebuild it and boost it to make resonable power. Would trying this be just plain dumb and I should save up and do a correct build?

If you want boost, I wouldn't even bother with the H22. Just boost the F22.

And if you have any intentions of making the motor last... yes, do a correct build. AT LEAST install forged internals (another benefit to the F22... the H22 has FRM sleeves that are compatible with a very limited selection of forged pistons, mainly the Mahle Gold Series.)

I have an H2A5 (F22A1 Tranny) on my H22. It still pulls hard but not as fast as you would like due to the taller gearing. I have my days where I wish I hadn't put it on there, but in the big scheme of things its not so bad since I do travel alot and saves on fuel. And either way it's still fun to drive in a spirited fashion. I haven't played with turning the VTEC crossover back any but I am sure I would notice a difference if I did as such, but that is another day and story. I hope this helps you out man!

would it help the acceleration with the 8lb flywheel I have on the tranny right now? cause I know alot of people don't like really light flywheels on the h22 and I don't know why

A light flywheel really doesn't do much for acceleration. It doesn't change the gearing, or add any power (aside from removing a bit of rotating mass.) The main benefit to the lightweight flywheel is freer revving in neutral, which helps with gear changes.

A lightweight flywheel is often not suggested for a turbo application, because the RPM drops quickly between shifts... thus allowing the turbo to slow down. I've never heard anything negative about a lightweight flywheel on an N/A H22. I have an 11lb wheel on mine.

aren't there guys who keep gears 1 through 4 the same on an H22 tranny but then they use the F22A's 5th gear for highway traveling? If the OP wasn't doing autocross this would probably be a good idea to bring the RPMs down while cruising.
