ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I had to use a pipe wrench on mine.
It grips alot better then vice grips and you cab get major leverage.
Try it and if it does not work add a little heat.

I had this same problem and as I recall it was 3 solid days of frustration.

Just work down the list of good options presented here, from least destructive to most (splitting/deliberately cutting the nut off should be LAST, just before engine removal).

Sorry I can't offer better suggestions than you already have. I'm just saying that I feel your pain...

ok i know every one has said this already but its true. the best way if its that tight is to heat it up while its hot you should be able to get it to move and break loose after that it should start to come off. if you ever have a bolt or nut thats too tight coming off try and tightin it before loosening usually it will help to keep you from rounding off the head of the bolt or the nut its self. also if im not mistaken that stud has a removal nut made onto the stud itself but its behind the pulley. if you get a pair of vice grips on it really tight i mean really tight you can try and hit it with a pry bar and a hammer from up top if you get what im saying. i would really try and heat it up first the try to loosen it.

i do believe that stud is the same as the bronze one in the pic. good luck man hope you get it off.

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried heating it up and it seems to do nothing. I could try many more times but I feel like it's not going to work. The last option is to cut it and I really don't feel like I should try doing that. I might just pull the whole motor, as ridiculous as it sounds. I feel that I have pretty much exhausted it to that point. I think I've been hitting my head against a wall with this nut for two weeks now. I want to at least start putting all of that energy I've been wasting into something that will lead to the solution, and it seems like removing the motor is the only option.

Unless there are some CB7ers who live in Washington State that could lend me a hand in trying to get this nut off one more time before I pull the motor.

My friend and I tried everything to get this bolt off, a variety of wrenches, a 4ft breaker bar, vice grips, and a pipe wrench. The damn thing will not move. We thought about cutting it, but is that bolt removable and replaceable? I couldn't find one on rock auto, what do you even call it? Tensioner bolt?

Well theres a nut behind the tensioner, so you will have something to put a wrench on. Besides, it doesnt matter what you use on it, your replacing it, just don't snap it off in the block.

No when you cut it it will be like a 14mm bolt. Maybe you can get a small impact on it or use a few swivels .

You're right that should be easy. If things are in the way then I'll just cut most of the stud off and use a socket.

Sockets might slip and could strip it if its in that tight. I would 1st try a box end on a wrench and maybe put another wrench on the 14 backwords to get more leverage. also hitting the 14 with a hammer might help brake it loose

I started the process of removing the engine today. Disconnected and removed a ton of crap. I'm removing just about the same stuff as I did when I replaced the clutch, so it's making it a lot better than I thought it'd be. I decided to do this because there is no good way I can cut the nut off especially from that angle, and after weighing the options I feel it's a safer move to just pull the whole thing out. Then I can do other things like replace the oil pan since it's stripped and inspect everything else. It's dark now so tomorrow I'll do more, and when I'm ready I think I'm just going to buy a hoist.

I still want to obtain an extra stud just in case.
