Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    2 new noises. Any ideas?

    I've had two new noises pop up. Not sure if they are related but I can't figure out what they are.

    #1 - On starting, I get a grinding that I can hear for a second after the starter motor shuts off and the engine is running. Nothing else about the engine sounds strange. It seems to be coming from the driver's side and its kind of a high frequency sound, like an exhaust shield was grinding on something.

    I don't see any belt shields scraping the timing belt. I have a new timing belt with 10k on it. I'm pretty sure I would have replaced the water pump, tensioners and any other internal parts that you usually do with the timing belt while I was doing the timing belt though I will have to check my records.

    As soon as I heard it I stopped driving for a few days and tried to find its source today. When I did that I heard...

    #2 - on shut down I hear a vacuum type sound for about a second and then there is a "cough." It's not coming from the exhaust, sounds like its coming from around the air filter.

    I took off the air filter and looked for vacuum leaks, found none.

    Any ideas what these could be?

        are you sure the starter is shutting off? you might check all the wiring and grounds on that side, when my gf's starter went out it had a grinding noise after start up and then the ground straps (or whatever the wires under the rubber boot are) had broken loose and eventually started arcing, which made a strange noise for a little bit after the car was turned off. hopefully not your problem, but you might check.

          I have an injen CAI on my cg5. It coughs out the intake on shutdown. It's not really a cough, it's more of a suck. When you kill the ignition and fuel, the engine is still pumping until it shuts off. Basically all you are hearing is the pistons sucking air into the cyls. No biggie.

            If you have Anti Lock brakes, the first new noise is probably just the ABS system. My 93 Accord has made that sound for about 2 or 3 seconds just after I start out each day for many years now. Sometimes it will happen randomly at other times too. I never even checked it out. I just decided it was that system priming or doing a self-check and just let it be. So far no problems. The brakes work great and recently I had to do a fast stop in the rain and the ABS kicked in to prevent uncontrollable skidding just like its supposed to.

            The second new noise is unusual. An Accord engine should come to a dead stop when the ignition is turned off. There should be no belching, run-on, dieseling, etc.Just some random thoughts: Is it possible your Accord doesn't like the fuel you're giving it? Do you do a lot of stop and go driving in hot weather? Has the o2 sensor on your car been replaced before?

            You might try some Seafoam in the fuel. If you don't want to do the whole upper intake smoke-a-thon seafoam thing, perhaps just put the recommended amount in a full tank of good gas and drive around and see if that helps. Make sure to take her to highway speeds with that seafoam in there.

            I mentioned o2 sensor because my car was doing a similar run on after key off and it proved to be a bad o2 sensor that never placed a code in computer. There was a whole set of other problems it caused, though, including severe bogging under load making care barely driveable, at times.
