Is there a way to drain most of the ATF?

I'm in the process of getting an automatic 90 LX. The transmission fluid looks good but i'd still like to make sure its fresh. I'd like to replace more than the 2.5 quarts out if possible since i'm picky about things like that. I know with some manufacturers you can unhook the fluid return line from the cooler or other tricks to get fluid out without a flush.

Does the CB7 have any way to get more fluid out? Like letting the converter drain back overnight with the fill plug removed? I searched for what seemed like forever and didn't find what I was looking for.

its not always a good idea to freshen fluids in these older trannys, sometime they wont shift correctly after cleaning and replacing the fluids.

The official way is to change the 2.5 more frequently. I do mine once a year.

I suppose you could take out the bottom shift solenoid. That would get a lot out. Make sure you have a new seal for it though.

Ok, well i am not opposed to just changing 2.5 quarts at a time. I figured id see if there was a reasonable option for my question.

I have another question pertaining to ATF fluid. The Z1 is the new fluid replacing the original CB7 fluid right? So does new Z1 blend well with the OEM fluid? I doubt the transmission has the factory fluid based on the good color but i'm still curious.

EDIT- I am searching and posting at the same time and see Z1 is being discontinued for another fluid? I still have the question about "blending" with the new Honda ATF's.

I was reading and saw thats basically how some manufacturers recommend doing it. They dont say anything about adding fluid as its running, but watch for the line to start spitting air in the fluid.

You do not bleed automatic transmission fluid. It is not a closed full system to require bleeding

If i was doing a flush that is the legit way to do it. Same goes for the power steering system actually.

Honda's recommended procedure is to do a total of four drain and refills with a short period of transmission operation between them.

If this car has over 150K + miles and you are feeling inclined to do a drain and refill, do yourself a favor and drop the pan (making sure to save all the fluid you had removed, preferably in a clean pan), worst case: if the fluid has a metallic sheen to it, you have a few options, leave it alone take the risk of replacing a trans filter and refilling the pan with the old trans fluid, or you can refill the pan with new atf. If the fluid doesn't smell burnt or look brown/black you should be safe with a drain and refill.

So.... you've never looked at our transmissions, have you?
We have no pan. We have no filter.

Tranny filter? Does that add like extra 5hp or what? I don't think this is "engine oil change". You are giving really bad advice.

you are correct about not having a pan but we do have a filter it is just not accessible without taking the housing apart

                            I wouldn't call it a filter. It's more a of a screen.
Although it IS there to filter, so I guess you win.

I dont really feel like doing it right away, but can you get to the screen without pulling anything else apart or dropping the transmission?

Also, where are you guys getting the dw1 fluid the cheapest? Im assuming somewhere online.
