Ever since i got the h22 it seemed that vtec wasn't kicking in as hard as it should. I kinda brushed it off thinking it was 'cause i lowered my vtec engagement point to 4600 rpm although i knew it shouldn't affect it so.I paid no mind at first and just left it. Well the other day i saw oil leaking from the solenoid where it bolts to the head and thought..."time to change the gaskets" I went to my local dealer, picked them up for $30 with tax and swapped the gaskets. I found that the oil screen was CLOGGED and the lower gasket was broken, i was kicking my self in the ass for not thinking of this earlier when i already knew that they get like this over time and affect vtec.So i take it for a test spin and... BOY DID THAT ENGINE COME ALIVE!!! Vtec is definately noticeable now and kicks in like an h22 should. So my advice to you guys(although most of you know this already) is to check that gasket and replace if need be.If you are swapping in an h22,spend the extra $30 and change the gaskets so you have peace of mind. You never know what kind of dirty oil was ran in that engine before it hit your hands.Change both at once, the bottom and the top one. Here is a pic of how the bottom gasket looks with the screen clean and clear...
And here is a pic of mine broken and clogged...
