ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    brakes

ok so i have been hering weird sounds when i hit bumps, took my passenger side wheels off and am checking brakes out and everything. well i get to lookin at the rear passenger side and the disc is able to move a little. also i notice that the hub bearing is loose(the part where lug nuts go). now i havent noticed the retaining screw in as there does not seem to be a hole for it. i wanna know if this is common for it to be loose like this. it is not up to my standards and worries me a bit. i will be doing the legend caliper and disk swap soon but i dont have the money right now, gotta wait till next check.

Sounds like your wheel bearing is shot.

We have captive rotors, so there are no retaining screws on them as with rotor-over-hub types. The rotor is REALLY on there, and it's pretty much impossible for the rotor itself to come loose. In fact, it's quite difficult to remove it when you want it to come off!

oh. ya i mean it is all deff loose. im actually taking it apart right now. it seems like almost the only thing holding it on was the caliper.

What do these wierd sounds sound like? Grinding, clucking, knocking? Does it only make them when you go over bumps?

The discs usually have a counter sunk philips screw that secures them to the hub. The factory installs them to hold the rotor in place during manufacturing. They are usually not really necessary since the wheel clamps everything together when you mount the wheel. You can get more and install them if your worried. Motormite makes factory replacements. usually in the help section at any autoparts store.

more like a clanking, not as deep as a clunk, and ya that counter sunk screw is not there. sry im not too good with the terms, and so far ive only here it hitting a bump. i am loweredon fnf ones and everything attached to them seem tight. but like i said where the lug nuts go on the bearing/hub? its loose and the entire disc is loose. the only thing holding it on is the caliper. i know cause i just took that off and am waiting on my friend with a 14 mm socket so i can take the bracket off to take the caliper off to check the bearing. sry if im using run on sentences.

How hard are you finding it to change the bearings I have to do the same to my two front hubs and I've never done it before wish there was someone to show how to do them lol

Usually when a bearing goes out you get a grinding noise. I suspect a ball joint or upper shock mount, possibly even a shock.

The disk/hub moves separately from the knuckle?.... Did you make sure the axle nut is torqued...? If so take it apart and inspect the bearing.

The brake design you described is a rotor over hub design. That is not what these cars have, unless they have been converted. Have you ever even worked on the brakes of a CB Accord? You are giving misleading advice.

The issue he is describing is very unlikely to be a shock mount or shock. The ball joint is possible, but the movement would be much more evident as the whole knuckle (and if the caliper was the only thing holding the rotor in place, then that means the caliper was stable... meaning it is NOT a ball joint.)

Everything points to a completely failed and separating wheel bearing.
This video deals with the same type of rotors (it's on a 97, but the brakes are nearly identical for what we're discussing here.) Look closely at how things are put together as Eric takes it all apart. That's what you're dealing with. That video (and the one on replacing a wheel bearing) is pretty much all you need to fix this problem.
