ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Rotor button removal HELP PLEASE!!

I've turned the rotor over and over and over and I still don't see a screw. There is a black plastic cover below it. Do I have to pull/pry the rotor off? Sorry, I am a first timer putting one on

If it's an OEM rotor, there will be a screw. If it's an aftermarket replacement, it's probably just a slip-on type, with a clip inside. In that case, it just pulls off. If it's been on there for a long time, it will probably be difficult to remove. Just be sure to pull it straight off.

I see the tabs, would it be ok to pry them up and pull at the same time?

              What tabs?

This is an OEM style, with the screw hole:

This is the aftermarket style that just clips on:

They sort of look like flat metal plates or connections. It's kind of hard to explain

Simply pull it off. Its gonna be stuck on there pretty good if it hasnt been changed in a while. When you put the new one on, make sure you clean the surface of the distributor shaft with some fine grit sandpaper, and use some dielectric grease when you put it back on, very little, not much at all, just to give it some better contact with the shaft, and to keep the humidity off it.

Sorry, I didn't see the picture when I just posted that last comment. But on the clip on type, where you would slide it on, it looks like you can see the metal contacts. Almost like they slid out a little from being worn

Would it be ok to use a penetrating solvent or would that damage the electronics on the inside?

Yeah, sorry, I used the edit button to add the pictures (you should use that as well... don't post repeatedly one after another...)

If you use any sort of penetrating solvent, just be careful not to get it inside the distributor. You really shouldn't need any, as it should just slide off if there's no screw in that flat part. Just pull it straight off... give it a good tug, or pry it from two sides (so the pressure is going straight, not sideways).

so to prevent that part from getting stuck on there again in the future, would you guys suggest using a little anti-seize?
