ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Turning into an all out drag car

Yes, decided to maybe take the car off the road and just use it as drag car. I know our cars are not the lightest for racing, but I'm keeping the car no matter what. I have the engine platform already, just looking to gut it add a roll cage, get a cheap truck and trailer and off to the races. Just wondering if it would be worth it to have the car restored a little? It does have rust, nothing on the outside as it has been fixed, but it is a 1992 that has survived many winters in Canada, so there's rust spot on the subframe and in a few other spots. So for the strength of the chassis I'm wondering if a restoration would be needed? I have decided to do this because I dont really drive my car on the road much anymore, it's fun to drive, but it's kind of pointless cause I can't get all the benefits out of it on the road. Any suggestions on where to start as far as body work for racing?

    That's pretty badass

You can make her light! Strip the interior, sound deadening, don't need the dash, then just start cutting off every single bracket that isn't being used. There is a lot of weight to remove from the doors, bumper supports, etc, just get creative.

As for restoration/rust repair, I think it is a good idea. Because it won't be driven on the road, so you'll only have to get the rust fixed once and not worry about it in the future. I'd strip her of everything you don't need, then take to a body shop for rust repair if you aren't doing it yourself.
    Good luck!

Rust is just nature's weight reduction.

Once you gut the car and put in a decent roll cage you wont have to get to crazy with rust repair. Just some simple patching and minor bracing. The cage will add alot of stiffness and suport.

Im a lil bit jealous. Lol id like to do that.

Just don't gut it and make it look like crap. Get creative and maybe custom make a dash with aluminum and make holes for all your gauges. Get light carpet do a rear seat delete and just have one driver seat. Maybe get fiberglass or carbon fiber body parts. Get ride of the power windows and anything that is not used for the car to run.

Can't wait to see what you have... sounds good. Make sure to update with pics.. As far as weight just like everybody else said. Take everything out not needed to run. Drag=Gutted.

So far the trunk is gutted and the a/c and blower motor are gone. I don't want to make the car look like crap that's for sure. I will look into some custom made dashes and other body parts that could be lighter than oem.

removing the guts took alot of work.

you'd be surprised how heavy the stock exhaust system is. on my project car, i turned it down after the cat w/ a little extension. (removed the cat and put a spintech muffler)

yeah, thinking of having either a front or side exhaust outlet and remove the piping. And it is no doubt a lot of work!

If you do the side dump exhaust. Id like to know what you do. I have been thinking about that.

And def do it clean. Aluminum dash. You dont need carpet. They make stuff called lizard skin you spray in and its also sound deadening. Its super light aswell. But not as pretty as carpet. It is sandable and paintable
