ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Alignment question/problem

sup guys, well i just lowered the ride and i need an alignment. I take it to a shop and one of the guys said since the car is lowered he cant align it. He said there is a special tool or tire center that does it. He also said there are kits out there that get the wheels straight. (im guessing camber kits?)
Could you guys help me out? thanks!

Does the shop not handle lowered suspensions? Then call around until you find one that will.

    Separately:

If the car was lowered without putting new hardware on to adjust the camber, then he is correct--your wheels will look like this viewed from the front / \ (exagerrating here, but you get the idea) and he will be unable to correct the camber with the stock hardware to look like this : | | and you'll wear through the inside tread of your tires verry fast.

Installing the camber kit will allow the tires to approach zero camber again (| |), which is what you want.

As to which kit to get, it's not my field.

HOWEVER ,also, (and if you don't have a camber kit installed, I think this might be true as well: be aware if the car was lowered without the proper high capacity shocks to handle the lowered springs and their higher spring rate, your shocks may blow within a couple of months which is quite dangerous, handling-wise, because it will cause the spring on that side to keep bouncing all the time, then the next shock will blow because of the added demand, and onward. Not a pretty picture to happen on the highway at 60.

Generally, lowering the car is a somewhat expensive proposition when done properly (read: not just for looks, but done with hardware that is matched to the specific demands of a lowered vehicle) , on the order of maybe $1500 for parts for the job. I would suggest writing in with what you actually did, parts-wise, and how far you dropped it, etc. and people here will be able to tell you if it's going to hold up.

The anchor bolt kits should be the same from CB to CD. I'm not sure about the ball joint kits.

Get a quality kit... preferably SPC. A cheap kit can break on you, which will almost certainly cause you to lose control of your car. I made that mistake myself when I was younger... I'm lucky for the sliver of metal that held on. Had that given out, I'd have crashed at 65mph in rush hour traffic. If the crash didn't kill me, the damage I would be responsible for would've cost me far more money than I had!

I got rejected by a Firestone shop because my car was lowered, even though they had an alignment rack designed for low-profile cars. I went to another Firestone and didn't mention that the car was lowered. They did it... however, they did it improperly, and the result was ruined tires due to cupping in the rear.

Hey, dear... the only thing you can put to adjust camber in front without any problem, is with Ball joint camber kit... i have try with table kit, no more space to use... so only thing you can adjust perfectly is with ball joint.. For Deevergote, spc is great i know, but you can also look in your local shop, personally i have find a great deal with life warranty on a local shop in my town.. the price is expensive but its lifetime warranty. 150$ each side...

The anchor bolt kit and ball joint kit perform exactly the same way. They both move the location of the mounting point at the ball joint (the anchor bolt kit just does it by moving the entire control arm.) Both are known to hit the inner fenderwell when provisions have not been made, when a car has been lowered about 2" or more.

AmznAzn, they can adjust your toe, but your camber obviously will not be adjustable without a camber kit. Your tires will still suffer. If you cannot afford a quality camber kit, then I would definitely find a shop that will at least align the toe, as that will kill your tires VERY quickly if you're running bad toe and lots of negative camber! I cannot speak for individual shops, so you'll have to ask around to see who will do it for you.

You really should get a quality camber kit as soon as possible. However, if you get the toe aligned now, and drive as little as possible for the next 3 weeks until you can get a camber kit and get things aligned AGAIN (a lifetime alignment package at a place like Firestone would be smart, as long as they'll do it for you...)

I need to make a locked section entitled "read this before you modify your car!"... so people can go there and learn the proper ways to do things (such as lowering your car with matched quality components, and including a camber kit, alignment, and the replacement of worn suspension components in the mix.) So many people do things halfassed because they don't know any better, and they end up with unsafe or damaged cars, and find themselves scrambling to get the right parts on a tight budget... because they never expected those additional expenses in the first place!
