Cold Air Intake vs Short Intake

Been doin some searching into the both and wanted some real expertise opinion
my cb7 is def a daily drive but i like to do some revving once in a blue moon

Supposedly Cold Air Intake can be dangerous if you don't have a water shield. If the waters actually get's into the system it can hyrdo-lock the engine. But im guessing if it's just raining would that even matter ?
What's the difference from having warmer air coming from on top of your engine than the cold air intake bringing in cooler air from the outside. After it goes through the intake manifold doesn't it " clean the air " i guess i can say.

As for as power the short intake gives you more power in the higher hq/tq in mid range RPM's while cold air intake gives you more in higher RPM's

So to sum it all up what you recommend for a daily drive ?
    thanks

from my experience there really isn't all that much of a difference. For say when I had cold air it didn't choke my motor up high and with a short ram your car doesn't bog down low. I think it's more so for people getting down to specifics when it really matters. I personally liked my cold air better. Thought it cleaned up the engine bay well and did pick up a smidge better in the down low. Hard to tell with the butt dyno though. The cold air was on a h23 lude and short ram on a f22a6 accord so I mean the lude was already torquey. If you run a cold air for sure get a bypass filter. The rain won't affect you but I did throw a rod through my block because I didn't see a partially flooded road at night due to my ipod and no streetlights.... murphy's law.

well that's a higher revving engine so you might wanna go short. idk I've never had the privilege of owning one but that would be my best guess

:edit: also I think the size of the piping would matter more than the sri or cai

i currently have a short ram intake and i like it, sounds great, looks kool, but ima turn it into a cold air so i can clean up the engine bay a little ( and i think it looks better ) it was a hastle cus i had to relocate battery and now i gotta cut a hole underneath where the battery tray is . ohh yeah not to mention i gotta get a bypass. it will be worth it tho, i know it is.

as for performance: i think the difference is not too noticeable so for me it doesnt matter. its more of how it looks that you should decide on.

The difference in performance is negligible.

A cold air intake requires you to cut the metal in your engine bay, which can result in a rusty hole if you don't do it properly. I know this from experience. It is also more of a hassle to remove. Hydrolock is only a threat when you actually submerge the filter in water.

A short ram intake does take in warmer air, but when the car is moving, the air temperature in the engine bay is not much warmer than the air in the fenderwell. It is only when the car is sitting sill that the short ram intake will be sucking in "warm" air.

The "cleaning" happens with the filter. It has nothing to do with the intake manifold.
A cheap short ram pipe with a quality filter, such as K&N or AEM, is all you need.

hey man what do u suggest: i made the hole by the fender ( inside engine bay ) bigger but its def. no even and its still sharp and thats not even the hole that my cold air set up needs so i cut the wrong hole. i gota cut by where the battery tray is at. but how would i go about preventing any rust or can it stay like that? ( in the long run )

After cutting the proper hole clean it up so the edges are smooth, free of nicks and burrs. Then spary the area with some rust prevention spray paint. You can buy a can for about 5 bucks at just about every hardware and car parts store. Once that drys line the edges of the hole with some sort of gasket to prevent any potential metal on metal rubbing with the intake tube. For mine I got some thick rubber tubing used for RV vacuum tubes and then cut it down the middle length-wise and glued it onto the edge of the hole.

I have had my short ram intake for about 12 years now, It has paid for it self long ago from not buying air filters. I wash it every six months or so. It looks like it is still in good condition, just wondering if I should buy a new filter after all these years?

I Would say go with a short ram intake. I have a ractive intake it seems to be high quality and is alot nicer then a autozone one.

I just bought a SRI on ebay. First order before install will be a new filter. It seems that the tubing is "run of the mill" but the filter seperates the bad from the good (no pun intended).
