ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

so i just went to the JY today and picked ou a turbo from an eighties thunderbird. It says that its a Garret .60 trim, its in my trunk right now but i dont have the time to get a pic right now and if i can post on my phone i will post the serial number up. but would this be a good turbo to start out with? i dont know much about it so anf feedback would be awsome.

best bet to get experience help is to post that pik. theres a few things you should check for before you try and use it. shaft play ( stick your finger in where the blades are and spin the impeller felling for any unnecessary play. It should spin freely and smooth. make sure there aren't any obvious seal leaks on the housing of the turbo, and check for general cleanliness. If all you want to run is 6-8lbs of boost or so, that turbo will be fine once you get the rest of what you need. i.e. manifold, piping, bov, wastegate, intercooler, oil lines, etc...

to answer your question, its a relatively small T3 .60 trim. Very similar to the z31 T3 i have on my shelf atm. They're solid to about 14lbs before they start pushing hot air. its a decent turbo and a fair place to start. it'll spool pretty well on a 2.2 probably around 2600-2800 rpms.

luckily, its a journal bearing turbo so even if it has some shaft play, rebuilds are easy and pretty inexpensive.

Was the one you pulled oil cooled only or oil and water?

if its a solid turbo , i don't see why you can't get a fabbed manifold and slap it on . the mid 80's super coupe was fairly fast for its time . great find

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

Aftermarket is probably your best bet for a rebuild kit.

imagine that engine setup in a Ford Pinto (same basic block)

                    try Ford first
