ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Grinding in 2nd & 5th gear

Hey members. Transmission shifting question for you all

On my 91 LX 5 speed, I can take off in 1st fine. Shift into 2nd below 2k rpms smoothly. above 2k rpms it grinds if try to shift quickly. if you shift smooth 1st, neutral, 2nd, it grinds a little. 2 to 3 to 4 are are fine. 4 to 5 grinds very little. i had to replace my clutch slave line (from fire wall accross from ds to ps to union just above trans). bleed the line for fluid. havnt replaced the transmission fluid yet. planning to later this week. honda oem mtf will be going in. car has been sitting for almost 5 years. hope this helps it out shifting. if not will try bleeding the line again.

also along the lines of mtf fluid use, have read some use a mix of oem mtf & redline mt-90, all mt-90, 75-90 synthetic, gm synchromesh, pennzoil fluid( cant remember which), etc. does any benifit gear change smoother or whatnot?

any help or opinions will be great. thanks
    Kyle C

Yeah, the the honda specified fluids in there and see what it does. If it doesn't help, you may be looking at messed up syncro's if im not mistaken. Although im not a tranny specialist im just speaking from past lessons learned and from what others have taught me.

GM Synchromesh will help. I've used it when I was experiencing grinds (accelerated synchro wear caused by a Chrysler dealership putting super-thick gear oil in my transmission...) The new Honda synthetic MTF is just about as good.

If your gears are grinding, though... the synchros are shot. A good fluid will only help a little, and slow down the wear. It won't fix anything, and it won't keep the parts from continuing to wear out. You are buying a little more time at best.
