dsm turbo manifold question...

    dsm turbo manifold question...

I have access to a 91 Plymouth laser turbo... parts car. the owner wants to sell me the manifold with turbo for $190. $40 for the manifold, $150 for the turbo. The shaft has no play, and visually everything is intact. Unfortunately the car is not in running condition.

    Questions...

Will it fit our head (f22a4) with out modification...?

Will i need a civic radiator...?

Is there anything else beside the injectors that i need from said donor car...?

    Is that a fair price...?

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.

the prices are fair. look into members that have DSM boosted before.
Plenty of us have been there. does it come with o2 housing?

Injectors- Try to locate DSM blue or black tops 450cc.
Manifold - Will fit, but you have to redrill mounting holes.
(Just take F22 exhaust gasket and match to DSM Manifold, Ports are identical)
No you will not need a civic radiator.

Other things for you to consider-
    a. Condition of motor mounts
    b. Clutch
    c. Turbo feed and oil return
    d. Oil catch can
    e. Fuel pump (not totally necessary)
    f. exhaust from turbo -back
    g. coolant lines to turbo dependant on temperature/elevaion you running.
    h. ECU - P06 chipped, and tuned
    i. Oil pan tapped for oil return.
    j. grind the block down for the DSM turbo.
    k. At a minimum Oil Press gauge (mechanical)
    l. Boost gauge, temp gauge
    m. 1st Gen BOV off same car with turbo
    n. charge piping (at least get the J pipe, so you can weld your pipes onto it)

here is something to look at if you really wanna DSM turbo.
I followed it to a T my first time boosting.

no modification is bs. the holes to the manifold will all need to be drilled i think if i remember correctly only two of them you don't need to touch but the rest all needs to be atleast slightly drilled or ground in order for it to bolt up. here's a list you could get off the guy.
      Turbo manifold
      turbo
I would also ask for the downpipe so that you could either modify that one or atleast have something to go with to make one.
      oil feed line.
      oil return line
      bov
wastegate should be attached to the turbo.
      bluetop 440cc injectors
And i'm not sure if the dsm's fuel pump is a 255lph. but if it is i'd grab that too.
not sure about the f series but for the h23 you have to remove your front torsion mount and either grind or shave pretty much that whole ear that holds the front mount on off. or else the turbo won't bolt in. that ear gets in the way.
hopefully you're a good welder and good with your hands. I made my own front torsion mount. but if not i forgot but the mounts alone costs like 250. and i've read alot of people running with only the back torsion mount.
hope this helped out. if you got more questions you could pm me. I've been there done that but on a h23.

forgot to add. if you leave all your accessories. like i did. just make sure you either zip tie or make a bracket to keep the ac line away from the manifold. and go for a 2" charge pipe not 2.5. the dsm turbos don't have enough cfm to where you'd need a 2.5. it's harder to work with. and you'd need to chip your ecu.

I ran 2.5" charge piping just fine on my setup, I think your going with ease of use with stock
DSM charge piping. But 2.5" works with no problem as well.

well i'm running 2.5 on mine too. but i wished i'd gone with 2. there were a few angles and a few kinks i could've avoided if i used 2. or maybe that's what crossed my mind. But then again I didn't delete anything from my car. still have power steering ac cruise control and all.

nice, I got rid of all that to clean up the engine bay. never used A/C anyways.
and Power steering is not needed. cruise control, well not needed either.
good to see someone kept it tho.

wih all my dleted goodies. 2.5" was easy to accomodate.

ya. thought someone ought to do it. everyone i talked to when i was doing mine all deleted theirs too. power steering i wanted. i have a momo steering wheel. didn't want the work out. lol. and the heat in middle tn and humidity trust me you'd want it if you could have it. and I drive alot so cruise control is a plus.

awesome write up. I saved the pdf file to my computer, cuz I"m in the process of sourcing out all my dsm stuff now to boost mine. how much improvement should i expect to see? How much do people who have done it like their setups?

I did it to my first setup with a 14b and loved the spool time.
A lot of people complain about how the 14g heats your engine but I was running NGK R5671A-11 plugs. That baby never got warm

I am about to duplicate that same setup onto my CB9 but with a Big 16G.

Only problem with boost, is you get addicted and only want more and more!

wow... thank you for all the response. Now I have a lot of thinking to do. i'm on the fence on doing turbo or just staying stock NA for now... i'm not trying to race, just wanted a little more pep... just debating on what to do gain a little more power, but retain the reliability...

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.

Steve is right... once you feel the extra power, you'll want more.

So how much gain should I expect? Im actually replying to this on my phone while driving to pull a part to search for dsm boost stuff

there are far too many factors involved to answer that question accurately. I have seen an F22A boosted with DSM parts making about 200-220hp. You may make more, you may make less. You may put a rod through your block and make none.

haha, thats a fair answer i guess. you're right though, how much gain does kind of depend on engine condition and other mods involved.
