ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    A/T rebuild "or" replace?

hey friends, i searched threads before i posted this. but my cb7 had 290,000 on it, but it runs good im the second owner and the first guy really took good care of it. i just bought it about three weeks ago and i notice the trans is kinda sloppy. so i was wondering what are my options on fixing the problem? replace, rebuild, ect. any help regarding my issue will be very much appreciated!

I picked up a cb7 for $200 with a bad transmission. I then search around a couple junk yards for a wrecked cb7 pick up one for $300 and drove it on the trailer but it was hit in the side and had a bent frame.
I did the tranny swap and put another 20k miles on the car before I sold it.
sold it cause it was a 2 door and I needed a 4 door for my new little girl.
but I still have the old trans and thinking about rebuilding it when I get a chance myself or see how much it would be for a shop to rebuild it.

Check fluid and change it out, see if the trans improves. Fluid is cheap, trans is not.

so im guessing its expensive to replace or rebuild? but yeah ill do a fluid change, i looked at the trans fluid when i first got it and it smelled good and it had a nice color to it still. and everyone i talk to about the A/T to M/T swap they laughed and was like its to much money and not worth it!

You'd be looking at a grand to have a transmission shop rebuild the trans. And thats what it would cost to have a more common GM RWD trans rebuilt, dont ask me to quote an import. Call transmission shops, and rebuilders.

That's ridiculous. A swap isnt that much at all, especially compared to a rebuild, not to mention the advantages as far as power, fun, and cheap to maintain versus an auto. You can usually find a full swap with nearly everything on craigslist or a junkyard between $200-$500. you need the tranny, cables, pedals, shifter assembly, manual trans starter, and other small things. It's not bad.

Me and my friend rebuild the automatic tranny on his box truck and it was super easy.It sounds hard but its not. Just take it apart and spread everything out in the same order it came out and replace what ever looks bad or worn out then put it back together, there might be even a DIY on it.You might want to change the fluid to make shure its not old.My green EX has I think 269.700 on it and its an automatic and it runs and shifts super strong. So I am saying change the fluid then if it still slips or feels sloppy then rebuild it. If you have to rebuild it you might want to consider a 5speed manual swap.

try using dexron 4 synthetic or royal purple. it might help alot and maybe make the sluggish shifts go away. its not likely, but its worth a shot vs replacing the tranny. well if your tight on money i would

Its an AUTOMATIC. You cannot put Royal Purple MOTOR OIL in it.

Honda Auto transmissions works best with Honda ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)

Trust me, been there, done that, blew my tranny, and even with a used transmission, Honda ATF makes it ride and shift like butter.

royal purple makes more than just motor oil. there's royal purple transmission fluid which if you read the lable is applicable to atf-z1 transmissions, aka hondas. which is why i also recommended dexron 4 synthetic to replace dexron 2
